My name is Jordan L Rodgers also known as Węglowy artysta. My degree was in Fine Art (Digital New Media, Contemporary Art History, Curatorship) at Lancaster University, 2009 - 2012, First-Class Honours. I am an artist from Liverpool, and I live and work in Katowice. I first visited Katowice in 2016 by chance, because I was travelling from Krakow to Opole by bus and looked out of the window and saw Spodek. It was at this point I decided to change my journey and get off the bus to explore the city.

I have travelled to many different cities in Poland and drawn important architectural buildings and landmarks which tell a story of my memories and feelings. I’m fascinated and inspired by Modernist architecture and I always carry a sketchbook with me to make quick sketches or notes of places, buildings and experiences. I prefer to draw on location because I can capture the atmosphere, movement and emotions and share a connection to the place.

I am pleased to announce that this exhibition at the Silesian University of Technology: Faculty of Architecture will present never before seen new charcoal sketches which were produced in 2022. Examples include Osiedle Tysiąclecia, Ustroń Zawodzie health resort, Teatr Ziemi Rybnickiej and "Hat" exhibition hall in Chorzów. By visiting and drawing these places I also became aware of the architects who designed them such as: Aleksander Franta, Henryk Buszko, Jerzy Gottfried and Jurand Jarecki. With thanks to the Institute of Architecture Documentation at the Silesian Library and to the Department of Theory, Design and History of Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture SUT,  who organised this exhibition and provided me with research materials.

The exhibition will showcase other examples of the modernism architecture movement from my travels in Poland, such as: Kielce Bus Station and Hotel Forum in Krakow. But, also from across Eastern Europe where I have travelled to: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Ukraine. I hope you will enjoy my passion for drawing architecture.
