German Luminescence and ESR Dating Meeting 2024 (DLED2024), Jelenia Góra, Poland

This year’s edition of DLED took place on 24-26 October 2024 in Jelenia Góra, Poland. This was the first time (hopefully the first of many) that this Conference was not only organised in Poland, but also by us, the Gliwice Luminescence Laboratory!
The Conference, as usual, was tons of fun! Not only did we get to share our research and scientific expertise, but also socialise over food and drinks and deepen our friendships – old and new – within the community. Also, there cannot be a DLED Conference without its traditional walk. This year’s hike took us around the neighbourhood of Jelenia Góra through mountain forests, surrounded by beautiful autumn views and landscapes.
Moreover, it is worth mentioning that a staggering team of 12 professors and students represented the Silesian University of Technology, and some of the students had their conference debut.
We presented the following research to our international colleagues from the luminescence dating community:
Oral presentations:
- Piotr Moska – OSL and 14C chronology of the aeolian–soil succession in the Łaskarzew site, East Poland
- Joanna Rocznik, M. Eng.– Pottery water content investigation for improved OSL dating precision
Poster presentations:
- Grzegorz Adamiec – Characterising crosstalk in EMCCD measurements of thermoluminescence from single grains
- Grzegorz Poręba – A New Perspective on Dose Rate Determination: A Case Study of Luminescence Dating of Loess Colluvia in the Lublin Upland (Eastern Poland)
- Konrad Tudyka (co-author of many posters listed here)
- Dr Fatima Pawełczyk – Luminescence and radiocarbon dating of pottery from three archaeological sites in Jordan
- Maciej Gosek, Eng. – Dose Rate Precision with 200 mg Samples Using the µDOSE+ System
- Julia Ilewicz, Eng. – Improving Precision Dose Rate Measurement for OSL Dating of Archaeological Artifacts Using Radioactivity Measurement with the μDOSE System
- Bartłomiej Błachut – Developing a Chronology of the Archaeological Site in Koziegłowy Based on the Analysis of Preserved Ceramic Artifacts
- Anna Kamińska – Updated chronology of the remains of historical mining shafts in the Tarnowskie Góry area based on radiocarbon and luminescence dating
- Marcin Młynarz – Topological data analysis of luminescence decay curves
- Sławomir Zdziebło – Revision and update of the μRate service for calculating ionizing radiation dose rate
This is yet another year where the GLL has such impressive representation and we are planning to keep taking the future editions of DLED and other conferences by storm! 🙂
A big thank you to the Organising Committee without whom DLED2024 could not have happened:
- Dr Fatima Pawełczyk,
- Grzegorz Poręba,
- Konrad Tudyka,
- Marlena Orlicka,
- Joanna Rocznik.
