1953
Establishment of the Faculty of Energy and Mechanical Engineering.
Professor Stanisław Ochęduszko is appointed the first Dean.
The Faculty is made up of:
the Institute of Thermal Technology,
the Institute of Power Engineering and Turbomachinery
and the Department of Thermal Apparatus and Waste Utilization.
1955
Establishment of the Faculty of Sanitary Engineering. Professor Eugeniusz Zaczyński is appointed the first Dean.
1956
Professor Stanisław Ochęduszko takes office as Rector of the Silesian University of Technology (1956-1959).
1969
The departments of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering operating in similar areas are merged to create
the Department of Heating and Air Protection,
the Department of Water Supply and Sewage Systems
and the Department of Water and Sewage Technology.
1971
The Institute of Environmental Protection Engineering is established at the Faculty
with the Division of Heating, Ventilation and Air Protection as a separate unit.
1981
Professor Ryszard Petela takes office as Rector of the Silesian University of Technology (1981-1982).
The Institute of Environmental Protection Engineering is divided into two separate units:
the Institute of Heating, Ventilation and Air Protection
and the Institute of Water, Sewage and Waste Technology.
1984
The Faculty of Sanitary Engineering is renamed the Faculty of Environmental Engineering.
1987
Professor Tadeusz Chmielniak takes office as Rector of the Silesian University of Technology (1987-1990).
1989
Professor Jan Szargut is appointed fellow of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
1991
The Institute is split into the Department of Heating, Ventilation and Dust Removal and the Department of Air Protection.
1992
Professor Jan Szargut is awarded the title of Doctor honoris causa of the Silesian University of Technology.

1993
The Faculty of Energy and Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Environmental Engineering
are merged to create the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering (IŚE).
Professor Korneliusz Miksch is appointed the first Dean of the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering (1993-1996).
1996
Professor Ryszard Wilk takes office as Dean of the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering (1996-2001).
1998
The Department of Environmental Biotechnology is created.
2001
Professor Michał Bodzek takes office as Dean of the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering (2001-2008).
2005
Professor Stanisław Mierzwiński is awarded the title of Honorary Professor by resolution of the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology.
Professor Maciej Zarzycki is awarded the title of Honorary Professor by resolution of the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology.
2007
Professor Tadeusz Chmielniak becomes corresponding member of the PAS.
Professor Jerzy Buzek, the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering graduate,
is awarded the title of Doctor honoris causa of the Silesian University of Technology.
2008
Professor Janusz Kotowicz takes office as Dean of the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering (2008-2016).
Professor Jan Szargut is awarded the title of Doctor honoris causa of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow.
New inter-disciplinary Energy and Environmental Engineering studies are opened with all lectures and classes conducted in English.
2009
Professor Tadeusz Chmielniak is awarded the title of Doctor honoris causa of the Czestochowa University of Technology.
2010
The Faculty engages in the “Advanced technologies for obtaining energy”
and “An integrated system of reducing operational energy consumption of buildings”
programmes financed by the National Centre for Research and Development.
Environmental Engineering becomes an ordered speciality subsidized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Environmental Engineering is granted an outstanding assessment by the Polish Accreditation Committee.
2011
Professor Tadeusz Chmielniak is awarded the title of Doctor honoris causa by the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology.
2012
Environmental Engineering, Power Engineering and Machine Mechanics and Design become ordered specialities subsidized
by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Environmental Engineering wins the title of the “Best Studies”.
The title is awarded to top specialities in all types of studies offered by Polish universities, academies and other schools of higher education.
2013
Professor Korneliusz Miksch is awarded the title of Honorary Professor by resolution of the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology.
Professor Andrzej Ziębik is awarded the title of Honorary Professor by resolution of the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology.
2015
Professor Michał Bodzek is awarded the title of Honorary Professor by resolution of the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology.
Professor Ryszard Wilk is awarded the title of Honorary Professor by resolution of the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology.
2016
Professor Andrzej Szlęk becomes the Dean of the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering.
Environmental Engineering run by the Silesian University of Technology wins the title of the “Best Studies”
in Poland according to the University Ranking “Perspektywy 2016”.
Professor Tadeusz Chmielniak is appointed fellow of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
