LabOpenDays at our Faculty
Do you want to really get to know the Silesian University of Technology? Meet scientists in laboratories and find out what their research involves? Talk to students and see that it is worth studying at the Silesian University of Technology?
As part of LabOpenDays 2024, the following events will take place at our Faculty on April 12, 2024 (Friday):
- Presentation: "The history of a certain pattern". The lecture will be held in room 309.MS from 10.30-11.30. Due to the size of the laboratory, the number of people who can participate in the lecture must be limited to 15. Authors: M.Sc. Eng. Arkadiusz Banasik, Ph.D. Eng. Piotr Pikiewicz and dr hab. engineer Wojciech Kempa, prof. PŚ.
- Popular science lecture entitled "A few simple questions - about open problems in mathematics", authored by Dr. Eng. Bartłomiej Pawlik. The lecture is scheduled for 11.00 in room 507 at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics (the room can accommodate 25 people).
We cordially invite young people from high schools, people interested in studying at the Silesian University of Technology and everyone else.

We are proud to announce that Dr Eng. Adrian Kapczyński has been awarded the prestigious ‘Golden Cap 2026’ prize in the category ‘Application of AI in teaching’. This accolade confirms that an innovative approach to teaching and modern technologies are genuinely transforming the face of academic education.
A new field of study starting in October 2026!
In response to the needs of the labour market, we are launching a new field of study: Data Engineering and Artificial Intelligence! The programme is scheduled to start in October 2026. If you want to work with data, create intelligent systems and develop your career in one of the most promising areas of IT, then this programme is for you! We offer two available degree pathways: Data Engineering and Machine Learning.
A meeting between students and staff from the International Exchange Section about the ERASMUS+ programme

Competition for the best Master’s thesis on the application of computational methods to the simulation of heat and flow processes
The Department of Thermal Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology, together with its industry partners, is announcing a nationwide competition for the best Master’s thesis on the application of computational methods to the simulation of thermal and flow processes. The aim of the competition is to promote students’ achievements in the application of computational techniques in the broadly defined field of thermal engineering. Thanks to the presence of representatives from industry and software companies on the competition jury, information about the best theses and their authors will reach potential employers.

X Urszula Marciniak Memorial - logic puzzle competition at the Silesian University of Technology
The Urszula Marciniak Memorial is an annual logic puzzle competition aimed at promoting mathematics, developing analytical thinking and having fun with diagram-based problems, grids, sequences and visual puzzles.
The Student Council of the Department of Applied Mathematics has been awarded the Rector’s Prize!
It is with great pleasure and pride that we announce that the Student Council of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics has been awarded the Rector’s Prize for coming first in the ‘Ankietyzacja’ campaign. The prize was presented by His Magnificence the Rector, Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, during the Zębatka 2026 Gala. We warmly congratulate our Student Council, thank them for all their work within our Department, and wish them continued success and many more wonderful projects!
Supporting students in developing their skills and competences – EU project
The Silesian University of Technology is carrying out a project entitled “Intelligent mechanisms for selective information processing in deep neural networks”, which has received funding of PLN 49,400 under the non-competitive project “Support for students in improving their competences and skills”, implemented by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
New partnership with the Comprehensive School in Pawłowice – establishment of an academic class
On March 11, 2026, the Municipality of Pawłowice and the Jan Paweł II Secondary School Complex signed an educational cooperation agreement with the Silesian University of Technology. As part of this collaboration, the Faculty of Applied Mathematics will provide lectures, workshops, and popular‑science activities for students of the newly established mathematics‑technical class.

The Faculty of Applied Mathematics has established cooperation with mikr.us, a service offering VPS servers for enthusiasts. Students of our faculty can receive a free version of the server (version 2.1) for one year (https://edu.mikr.us/).
