8th Chess Tournament for the Championship of the Department of Applied Mathematics

We warmly invite all chess enthusiasts to take part in the 8th Chess Tournament for the Championship of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics. The event combines sporting competition with academic integration and promotes chess in a friendly, open atmosphere. Players of all skill levels are welcome.

On May 29, 2026 (Friday) at 10:00 a.m., the 8th Chess Tournament for the Championship of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics of the Silesian University of Technology will take place in room 507. The tournament is expected to conclude around 2:00 p.m.

Tournament format
The playing system and time control will depend on the number of participants:

  • More than 10 players – Swiss system, 7 rounds, 10 minutes + 5 seconds per move
  • 9–10 players – round-robin, 8 minutes + 2 seconds per move
  • Up to 8 players – round-robin, 10 minutes + 5 seconds per move

Purpose
The aim of the tournament is to promote chess at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and to encourage sporting competition and community integration among staff and students.

Who can participate?
The tournament is open to all staff members and students of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, regardless of playing strength. Amateur players are especially welcome.

Prizes
Prizes include:

  • Trophy for the winner – Champion of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics
  • Trophy for the best player without a FIDE rating or chess category – Amateur Champion of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics
  • Chess books

Registration
Please submit your registration by May 27, 2026:

Please include information about any FIDE rating or chess category you may hold.
If there are enough places available, it will also be possible to register just before the tournament.
