The 8th Chess Tournament for the Applied Mathematics Department Championship – we have a winner!

Another exciting chess competition has taken place at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics. The 8th Faculty Chess Championship brought together talented participants and thrilling gameplay.

The 8th Chess Tournament for the Championship of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics gathered ten participants passionate about the royal game. The competition was held in a friendly and sportsmanlike atmosphere, highlighting the growing interest in chess within the academic community.

The tournament was won by Dr. Eng. Marcin Adam, who scored an impressive 8 points out of 9 rounds. The podium was completed by Bartłomiej Łokaj and Rafał Jobda, both demonstrating a high level of skill and determination. The title of Amateur Champion was awarded to Konrad Wołoszyn for his excellent performance.

Congratulations to all participants, and thank you for creating such an inspiring competitive atmosphere. We look forward to the next editions of the tournament!

The 69th School of Illustrative Mathematics “Completely Different, Yet Exactly the Same” Has Come to an End

The 69th School of Illustrative Mathematics was held from 20 to 24 August 2026. The event brought together mathematics enthusiasts for a conference focused on promoting mathematical culture, exchanging ideas and popularising mathematics. For the second consecutive year, the host of the event was the Silesian University of Technology. A total of 101 participants took part in this year’s edition.
Some of the events were held at the Silesian University of Technology Library, while the main programme took place at the Educational and Conference Centre.

Prof. Olga Macedońska-Nosalska, has passed away

We regret to announce that Prof. Olga Macedońska-Nosalska, Honorary Professor at the Silesian University of Technology, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026. The funeral will take place on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. at the cemetery on Francuska Street in Katowice.
