Use of artificial intelligence in diploma thesis preparation
The Ordinance No. 5/2026 of the Rector of the Silesian University Of Technology dated 15 January 2026 on the Policy for the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research and education at the Silesian University of Technology, states that while preparing their thesis, students have the right to use AI tools, but only to the extent permitted by the AI Policy, which is set forth in this regulation. In particular, two points of this Ordinance must be emphasized:
- „It is unacceptable to present content generated by AI as the author's own work without disclosing the extent of AI use, whereby independent work is understood as a creation for which the student, doctoral student or course instructor, respectively, bears full responsibility regarding the content, method of preparation and compliance with learning outcomes, regardless of the supporting tools used.” (§ 4, item 6)
- „All sections prepared using AI must be clearly described and marked in the text, in particular by describing the scope of AI use and the nature of the content obtained. If necessary, it is possible to indicate sample commands (prompts) and the date of AI use.” (§ 4, item 9)
Before using AI tools to generate part of their thesis, students are obliged consult their advisor regarding the scope of their use.
