Success of students from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics at HackYeah 2025

Students from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics at the Silesian University of Technology have shown that creativity and knowledge are the keys to success! Two of our students were part of the team that won an award at Europe's largest hackathon – HackYeah 2025.

HackYeah is the largest stationary hackathon in Europe, bringing together hundreds of technology, programming and innovation enthusiasts every year. In this year's edition, held on 4–5 October, participants undertook as many as ten tasks and competed in the Capture The Flag competition for cybersecurity enthusiasts. The topics of the tasks were extremely diverse – from gamedev, through defence and biohacking, to travel, and some projects addressed specific challenges.

First place in the Biohacking category went to the Data Science Student Research Club of the Silesian University of Technology, composed of Joanna Wiekiera, Patrycja Prusak, Julia Merta, Mikołaj Musioł and Jakub Jaromin. We are particularly pleased that students from our Faculty, Patrycja Prusak and Jakub Jaromin, are also part of the team. We are proud that the knowledge and passion developed at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics translate into such spectacular successes and inter-faculty cooperation within research clubs.

The team has created the Rest & Blink application to support healthy habits while studying and working on a computer. The application reminds users to take regular breaks for their eyes, monitors their posture, measures their heart rate, and, thanks to a system of points and badges, motivates users to take care of their health in a digital environment.

We congratulate both our students and the entire team on this outstanding achievement!
