The call for applications for the competition implemented as part of the project “Universities of the future”
The call for applications for the competition implemented as part of the project “Universities of the future” financed by the National Centre for Research and Development has just been announced.
We cordially invite people studying full-time studies in the 1st or 2nd year of the first degree (undergraduate studies and engineering studies) or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of uniform full-time master studies to participate in the project “Universities of the future”.
From March 1st to 16th, 2025, the Silesian University of Technology will host a call for proposals in the competition for the individual Innovative Project. For its implementation, you can get a scholarship of PLN 20 thousand
Participation in the project will give you the opportunity to implement your own research ideas, as well as to create original technological solutions, which in the future can be patented and implemented into business activities. An individual Innovative Project can be implemented independently by the student (or in exceptional situations by a maximum of three people).
Participation in the project gives the opportunity to:
• implementation of an innovative project,
• gaining ECTS credits, which after verification of the acquired learning outcomes, will be counted toward the education program in a given field of study,
• receive a scholarship of up to 20 000 PLN,
• participation in workshops and micro courses.
The individual Innovative Project will be implemented with the support of a supervisor from the Silesian University of Technology, a scientific mentor and a representative of the socio-economic environment acting as a business mentor. The duration of the project is a maximum of two semesters.

The 15th edition of the European Congress of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, the largest event dedicated to the SME sector in Europe, has come to an end at the International Congress Centre in Katowice. As every year, scientists from the Silesian University of Technology took part in the panels and discussions. Adrian Kapczyński, EngD., an employee of the Department of Applied Mathematics, also took part in the event, leading a discussion on cybersecurity.

It is with deep regret that we announce that on 27 October 2025, at the age of 85, dr hab. nauk matematycznych Stefan Czerwik, prof. PŚ, (Doctor of Mathematical Sciences, Professor SUT) retired employee of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, passed away.

Knowledge tastes best in practice – this was confirmed by students of School Complex No. 9 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój during a guest lecture by Mirosław Witkowski, MSc Eng., from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics at the Silesian University of Technology. The meeting showed that mathematics and computer science are not just school subjects, but the key to understanding the modern world.

The 68th School of Illustrative Mathematics (Szkoła Matematyki Poglądowej) has come to an end. It was organised by Ośrodek Kultury Matematycznej (Center for Mathematical Culture), Fundacja Matematyków Wrocławskich (Wrocław Mathematicians’ Foundation), and this year by Silesian University of Technology.
