IX Urszula Marciniak Memorial - logic puzzle competition at the Silesian University of Technology
On Saturday, March 22, 2025, the Upper Silesian IX final of the Urszula Marciniak Memorial, a nationwide open competition of logic puzzles, will be held in room C of the Silesian University of Technology Educational and Congress Center. The competition commemorates Urszula Marciniak, a mathematician and popularizer of puzzles, founder of the LOGI Publishing House. The main organizers are the Wrocław Mathematicians Foundation and the LOGI Publishing House from Warsaw. The patronage over the Upper Silesian edition of the competition was assumed by His Magnificence the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk.
This year, over 7,000 participants took part in the eliminations in Poland, of which about 3,500 in Lower and Upper Silesia. The finals will be held simultaneously in eight academic centers, at the universities of Wrocław, Gdańsk, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Maria Skłodowska-Curie University in Lublin and Świętokrzyskie University in Kielce, as well as at the universities of technology of Warsaw, Białystok and Silesia.
The Upper Silesian edition is organized by the Faculty of Applied Mathematics of the Silesian University of Technology.

Representative of our Faculty at the European Congress of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
The 15th edition of the European Congress of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, the largest event dedicated to the SME sector in Europe, has come to an end at the International Congress Centre in Katowice. As every year, scientists from the Silesian University of Technology took part in the panels and discussions. Adrian Kapczyński, EngD., an employee of the Department of Applied Mathematics, also took part in the event, leading a discussion on cybersecurity.
Dr. hab. nauk matematycznych Stefan Czerwik, prof. PŚ has passed away
It is with deep regret that we announce that on 27 October 2025, at the age of 85, dr hab. nauk matematycznych Stefan Czerwik, prof. PŚ, (Doctor of Mathematical Sciences, Professor SUT) retired employee of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, passed away.

The meeting showed that mathematics and computer science are not just school subjects, but the key to understanding the modern world.
