It is with deep regret that we inform you that on 24th of April, 2022

prof. Jan ŚLUSAREK

passed away.

Prof. Jan Ślusarek was the Vice-Rector for Research and Cooperation with Industry (at period: 2008-2012), Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering (at periods: 2005-2008 and 2012-2016). He was for many years the head of the Department of Ecological Building, the Department of General Construction and Building Physics (at period 2009-2019) and from 2019 the head of the Department of Building Processes and Building Physics.

We say goodbye to a distinguished pedagogue, promoter and tutor of many generations of academic youth.

Honor his memory!

Prof. Jan Ślusarek graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology in 1977. After graduation, he worked in managerial positions in various companies related to the construction industry. He joined the Silesian University of Technology in 1993. Prof. Jan Ślusarek obtained a doctorate in technical sciences at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the Szczecin University of Technology in 1996, and a postdoctoral degree in 2002 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. In the years 2004-2010 he was an associate professor of the Silesian University of Technology, in 2009 he was awarded the title of professor of technical sciences.

The area of research interests of prof. Jan Ślusarek included, in particular, the issues of civil engineering. He specialized in the issues of building physics, physics of building materials, concrete prefabrication, durability and operation of buildings and concrete technology.

He was the author of two monographs, two textbooks and one book published abroad. He was also the co-author of three more monographs. His total output included over 200 works published in Poland and abroad. He was the promoter of eight completed doctoral theses, over 130 master's and engineering theses. Prof. Jan Ślusarek was also a reviewer of five doctoral dissertations, two habilitation theses and two applications for the award of the title of professor of technical sciences. He was also the author of opinions on applications for the award of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa and Honorary Professor of the Silesian University of Technology.
