During his scientific and research work, Professor Maciej Gryczmański constantly combined his knowledge with engineering practice. He continuously cooperated with numerous universities in the country and abroad, as well as with many firms and design offices. He participated in many important investment projects in Silesia. He became famous as a pioneer in the practical applications of stone columns made with the dynamic exchange technique, as well as a propagator of methods of strengthening weak soil under many cubature and linear objects.
The scientific community has always perceived Professor Gryczmański as a person who is extremely kind to others, open, warm, friendly, with a great sense of humor and a great distance to himself. Professor Maciej Gryczmański never spared his time and energy on talking about scientific and professional topics, but also on giving good life advice to his friends, colleagues and young scientists.
He promoted, among others 12 doctors of technical sciences, he was constantly interested in the scientific development of employees and doctoral students of the Department of Geotechnics, and then the Department of Geotechnics and Roads at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. He was the Head of the Department of Geotechnics (1994-2006), as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering (1996-1999). He was the author or co-author of numerous research and scientific, engineering and technical works, as well as expert opinions and engineering studies. His achievements include many reviews of doctoral dissertations, opinions of applications for the award of a postdoctoral degree or an academic title.
The academic community of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology would like to thank the late Professor Maciej Gryczmański for his life, work, time, strength, energy, good advice, and also for being our Best Teacher and Friend.
The last farewell to the late Professor Maciej Gryczmański, due to the coronavirus pandemic, will start on Tuesday, April 13 this year at 12:00 at the main gate of the Central Cemetery in Gliwice.
CALENDAR LIFE OF
PROFESSOR MACIEJ GRYCZMAŃSKI
- On February 11, 1937 in Kazimierz, near Sosnowiec, Maciej Gryczmański was born 1943-1950 he attended the Primary School in Kazimierz
- 1950 - 1954 attended the General Secondary School of Stanisław Staszic in Sosnowiec1954 - 1960 studied at the Faculty of General and Industrial Construction of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice
- On September 30, 1960, he defended his thesis entitled: "Steel frame bridge with a cooperating reinforced concrete slab", developed under the supervision of Prof. Eugeniusz Jamrozik
- November 1960 - April 1964 he worked at Biuro Projektów Energetycznych "Energoprojekt" Gliwice as a senior assistant designer and designer
- April 1964 - August 1965 he worked on the construction site as a senior supervision inspector at the power plant "Blachownia under construction" in Blachownia Śląska
- September 1965 began work at the Department of Soil Mechanics and Foundation, headed by Assoc. dr hab. Eng. Józef Śliwa
- January 1967 - December 1972 he worked part-time as a land appraiser in Wojewódzkie Przedsiębiorstwo Wiertniczo-Geologiczne in Tychy
- On October 24, 1973, the public defense of the doctoral dissertation was held: "Analysis of the stratified substrate by the finite element method", the promoter of which was doc. dr hab. Eng. Józef Śliwa
- On September 1, 1974 he moved to the Higher Engineering School in Opole, where he organized and headed the Department of Geotechnics and Geodesy
- 1974 - 1985 he worked as a contract associate professor at the WSI in Opole
- 1979 received the award: Meritorious for the Opole region
- 1980 received the award of the Main Board of PZITB im. W. Żenczykowski
- On May 2, 1984, a habilitation colloquium was held at the Faculty of Hydrotechnics, Gdańsk University of Technology; the title of the habilitation thesis: "The rheological model with anisotropic strengthening for the soil skeleton"
- November 1984 obtained a postdoctoral degree in technical sciences
- 1985 - 1990 he worked as an associate professor at the Higher School of Engineering in Opole
- 1986 he was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit
- January1989 became the owner of the company Doradztwo i Projekt Geotechniczne "GEOKONSULTING"
- 1990 - 1992 he worked as an associate professor at the Higher School of Engineering in Opole
- October 1992 he moved to the home faculty, to the position of associate professor at the Department of Building Structures
- from 1994 he chaired the Geotechnics Section for the next four terms at KILiW PAN
- October 1994 works as associate professor at the Department of Geotechnics, which he headed until August 31, 2006
- 1995 "Introduction to the description of elastic-plastic soil models" was published, published by KILiW, IPPT in Warsaw
- 1996 - 1999 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology
- On January 24, 1997, he was awarded the title of professor by the President of the Republic of Poland
- 1999 he received the award: Merit for the Silesian University of Technology
- 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004 he received individual Rector's 1st and 2nd degree awards for scientific and organizational achievements and staff development
- 2000 - 2006 he was the vice-president of the Polish Committee of Geotechnics
- 2001 he received the Medal of the National Education Commission
- On April 1, 2002, he became a full professor at the Department of Geotechnics, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Silesian University of Technology
- 2003 was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Rebirth of Poland, 5th class
- 2006 prof. Maciej Gryczmański was retired, but he continued to conduct scientific and expert activities
- 4.04.2021 prof. Maciej Gryczmański has passed away and has left for the God's House
