Ochrona klimatu i środowiska, nowoczesna energetyka Priorytetowy Obszar Badawczy POB6

As part of the Silesian University of Technology Science Days (April 9–10, 2026), Session III was held, titled: “New Horizons in Science: Directions for Research Development in the Face of Civilizational and Technological Challenges.” The session was chaired and moderated by Prof. Marcin Lutyński, DSc, Eng., Head Coordinator of the Silesian University of Technology’s 6th Priority Area “Climate and Environmental Protection, Modern Energy” (POB6).

The session focused on the directions of scientific research development in the face of contemporary civilizational and technological challenges. Particular attention was paid to the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation, implementation, and modern technologies, including those related to the application of nuclear physics solutions.

The session’s topics aligned perfectly with the objectives of POB6. They covered issues related to the development of strategic research and development projects, dual-use technologies, quantum information science, the reliability of research in computational biology, and new possibilities in proton therapy. Interesting presentations were delivered by the invited guests: Prof. Jakub Kupecki, DSc, Eng. (National Centre for Nuclear Research), Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, DSc, Eng. (Silesian University of Technology, Centre for Defence Technologies and Dual-Use), PhD Kamil Wereszczyński (Silesian University of Technology), PhD Serghei Mangul (University of Southern California), and Prof. Paweł Olko, DSc (Institute of Nuclear Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences).

The session provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and reflect on the role of science and innovation in addressing the challenges of the future. The presentations confirmed that the advancement of modern research increasingly relies on combining expertise from various fields, openness to new models of collaboration, and the search for solutions relevant to sustainable development and modern energy.

The format and conduct of the session underscored the highest quality of research and scientific knowledge exchange.
