Indoor environmental quality is receiving increasing attention in many countries in terms of health and environmental protection, as well as minimizing energy consumption. This has become more important due to the development of technology and construction equipment. Modern, airtight windows are desirable for energy savings, but they limit natural ventilation, often below the hygienic minimum, which can contribute, for example, to the sick building syndrome. When considering energy efficiency, it is also necessary to maintain the quality of the indoor environment. Building users are exposed to a variety of indoor substances, such as those from building equipment and natural and anthropogenic pollutants carried from outside. Emitted pollutants, even in low concentrations, can pose a threat to human health due to their synergistic effects and/or ability to accumulate in the human organism.

As guest editors of the journal Frontiers in Environmental Science (ISSN 2296-665X, IF: 5,411), we invite you to submit articles for the special issue "Indoor Environmental Air Quality in Urban Areas." For publication, we invite original articles containing experimental research, case studies or extensive discussion on:

- all aspects of indoor air quality in urban areas, including emission sources of major pollutants, chemical-physical and microbiological measurements, influences, modeling, and recent trends in indoor air quality control and improvement systems,

- innovative, efficient, energy-saving and environmentally friendly solutions and systems and their application in construction to create a good quality indoor environment
