"The EU has taken a number of initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As forests play a key role in absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere, which would otherwise be contributing to global warming, the EU is working on legislation for more carbon absorbers.

On 8 June, the Parliament supported an update of the rules for the land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) sector."
