Silesian University of Technology is implementing the project "Modern methods of monitoring the level and isotopic composition of atmospheric CO2" (MONCO2)

Tasks and activities carried out under the project:

1. subsidizing the cost of research related to the green economy, the carbon cycle and CO2 monitoring.
2. presentation of research results in publications - support of scientific staff and doctoral students.
3. presentation of research results at conferences - support of scientific staff and doctoral students.
4. training and workshop activities to educate the competencies of scientific staff and doctoral students - training organized by external centers.
5. increasing the attractiveness of universities: retrofitting of scientific workshops and laboratories (including the purchase of, among others, an analyzer, elements for the construction of BZP, microbalance). Weighing scales.
6. support of university staff classes in English strengthening soft skills.
7. good practices in the use of drones during CO2 monitoring classes (spatial analysis).
8. good practices in the use of tethered balloons during CO2 monitoring classes.
9. good teaching practices: CO2 emissions and monitoring, climate change in mountainous (clean) areas.
10. spectrometry workshops at the manufacturer or supplier of the spectrometer.
11. internal training-consultation with specialists.

Target groups

The target group will be persons residing, studying or working in the area of one of the 7 sub-regions of the Silesian Voivodeship defined in the Territorial Plan for Fair Transformation (TPST): scientific staff and doctoral students at the Silesian University of Technology, in particular and first of all from the Institute of Physics - CND, the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Energy, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology (MT), Environmental Engineering and Energy (IŚIE), the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, and doctoral students carrying out research work at the above-mentioned university units and in Priority Research Areas 4, 5 and 6.

Project objective

The aim is to support: scientific personnel and/or doctoral students especially in the fields of green and digital economy. The project will be implemented in the area of the city of Gliwice - municipalities from the area of mining sub-regions included in OSI - communes in the mining transformation. The project ‘Modern methods for monitoring the level and isotopic composition of atmospheric CO2’ in which activities are planned for the development of scientific staff and/or doctoral students from various Priority Research Areas at the Silesian University of Technology in the years 2024-2026 and strengthening of the attractiveness of the university is in line with the Territorial Plan for Fair Transformation of the Silesian Voivodeship 2030 (TPSTWŚ2030), in particular with social, economic and environmental challenges related to. Among other things, it is related to sustainable economy, the carbon cycle in nature, climate change, carbon dioxide emissions, opportunities to reduce and monitor air pollution emissions, the use of modern research and teaching methods. The project responds to the needs in the area of economic change related to efficient higher education, improvement of the quality of the base and infrastructure, higher education.

Effects, project results

The project ‘Modern methods for monitoring the level and isotopic composition of atmospheric CO2’ is part of (TPSTW2030) the development of innovation and technology, which requires a well-functioning higher education primarily in terms of increasing the quality of the higher education base, which will provide the possibility of education at the highest level, strengthen the attractiveness for both Poles and foreigners. Training courses on modern teaching methods will provide an opportunity to learn about good practices applied in higher education at universities, it will also provide an opportunity for teaching staff and/or doctoral students to present their research results on a national and international forum.

The attractiveness of universities increases when there is access to modern teaching and research methods. The project will focus on co-financing research costs, co-financing of publication costs, translations, co-financing participation in conferences, support for study visits abroad, training and workshop activities developing competences of scientific staff and doctoral students, while increasing the attractiveness of higher education institutions, in particular in terms of the green and digital economy, covering, inter alia Among other things, retrofitting of scientific laboratories and laboratories, support for staff of higher education institutions concerning, inter alia, the use of modern teaching methods, shaping soft competencies, digital competencies, skills for transformation through participation in courses, trainings, workshops, study visits in accordance with the assumptions of TPST.

Project cost (total): PLN 3,513,584.76.

Amount of input from European Funds: PLN 3,162,226.28.
