Wojciech Adamczyk
HealthTech Innovation Presentations – Poster Session
Wojciech Adamczyk has been serving as a professor in the Department of Thermal Technology at the Silesian University of Technology since 2022. He participates in executing projects and scientific research that are crucial for technological advancements in Poland and Europe. The solutions developed, including AI-supported diagnostic systems for industrial uses, are globally innovative. Due to the professor’s scientific expertise, distinctive technological solutions are devised and applied in various industries, such as the bioengineering one. He oversaw the efforts of research groups involved in projects funded by both national and international sources. These projects frequently entail research performed within a scientific-industrial-medical consortium. The professor’s research unveils new pathways, such as in the area of development new diagnostic methodologies for TAVI usage and testing new biological valve. His research involve application of hybrid technique that integrates CFD simulations, machine learning, and multi-stage validation.

Marta Chmura is a teaching assistant in the Department of Biomechatronics and a graduate of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering.
Her research focuses on postural control mechanisms and their responses to destabilizing stimuli in both real and virtual environments. She specializes in the application of virtual reality technology and innovative methods for analyzing stabilographic data, with a particular interest the diagnosis and rehabilitation of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
Krzysztof Dowgierd

Dr. Krzysztof Dowgierd, M.D., is a prominent specialist in maxillofacial surgery and a pioneer in facial reconstructions in children and adults. His professional career began with graduation from the Medical University of Gdansk. He went on to earn a doctorate in medicine in 2016, thanks to his scientific work on the use of a palatal distractor in the treatment of maxillary stenosis, which he was the first to introduce to the Polish market.
Maria Escarti Barcia

María Escartí is currently the Deep Tech Venture Builder Programme Lead at EIT Health. She coordinates the co-design and launch of the DTVB Programme, a new EIT Health initiative to support and accelerate innovation from lab to market. Maria has extensive experience in helping startups and innovators from the early stages. Maria was previously managing director at Invest in Valencia, developing investment attraction strategies for the city of Valencia and helping tech and innovative companies with soft-landing services. Prior to that, Maria spent 10 years in Silicon Valley, helping startups and companies from outside the US to connect with the most innovative ecosystem in the world. Maria has also worked several years in Germany and Czechia helping companies with internationalization and innovation services. Maria studied Law and a Master in International Trade at the University of Valencia.
Anna Gawrońska

For over 18 years, I have been supporting Polish hospitals and industry companies in implementing digital solutions (e.g. GS1 barcode scanning) and developing selected e-services. I have been cooperating for years with selected organizations that create the healthcare ecosystem in Poland and abroad. Since 2018, I have been a Member of the Management Board of the Polish HL7 Association. I also serve as an expert on the Council of Experts at the Coalition for Hospital Safety and as an ambassador of the Polish Hospital Federation. I believe that implementing interoperable solutions in healthcare contributes to improving patient safety, quality of services provided, work comfort of medical staff and the economic efficiency of the organization. As a doctor of economics, I use elements of scientific knowledge to design solutions for business and public institutions. I also cooperate with universities. I share the effects of my work during training, scientific and popular science publications, and lectures.

Spyretta Golemati is Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. She holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Bioengineering from Imperial College London, UK. As visiting scholar/researcher, she visited the Ultrasound Elasticity Imaging Laboratory in Columbia University in the city of New York, USA (2013 and 2016), and the Centre for Visual Computing, Ecole Centrale de Paris (2013). She is alumna of the Fulbright Foundation-Greece. Her main research interests include image analysis of B-mode ultrasound images of the carotid artery, and the identification of novel indices of arterial mechanics and pathophysiology of atheromatous plaque.

Dr. Guzowski is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences (IChF PAN), with a strong passion for both scientific research and technological innovation. As a physicist specializing in theoretical soft matter physics and experimental microfluidics, Dr. Guzowski has developed a diverse skill set that bridges fundamental science with cutting-edge applications.
In recent years, Dr. Guzowski has focused on exploring the potential of microfluidics in material science, bioprinting, and tissue engineering, contributing significant advancements to these fields and played a key role in driving innovative research, leading teams to success in both fundamental and applied sciences.

He has extensive investment experience in the med-tech sector where having completed over 25 investments.

Karol Jedrasiak, Ph.D., academician, teacher and manager, author of 88 scientific publications, including three scientific monographs, cited a total of more than 700 times according to Google Scholar. His H-index according to Google Scholar is 19. His scientific experience includes participation in 26 research and development projects, including 24 with NCBiR, in five as project manager, in four as project manager within the unit, and participation in more than 30 conferences and symposia of national or international character.

Passionate in the field of bioelectronics and medical informatics, specializing in biomedical signal acquisition and processing methods, including bio-inspired machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms.
Author of about 250 scientific and research publications, manager or contractor of 42 R&D projects, responsible for the development of digital signal processing (DSP) methods and implementation of the developed systems, especially on advanced embedded platforms of modern microcontrollers.

Stella Maćkowska is a linguist specializing in the English language and PhD student in the Department of Medical Informatics and Artificial Intelligence. She has completed PhD studies at the Doctoral School at the Silesian University of Technology and is waiting for her PhD thesis defence. Her scientific interests encompass diverse topics, including computer-aided medical therapy, data analysis focusing on medical data, the application of artificial intelligence methods, natural language processing techniques, and linguistics. Her work particularly emphasizes the text analysis of patients with eating disorders, integrating advanced computational approaches to understand better and support the treatment of such conditions. She is the co-author of several scientific publications and conference materials on medical data mining.
Przemysław Nowakowski

Prof. Nowakowski is a vascular surgeon and angiologist, working from 2009 as head of the Department of Vascular Surgery at the AHoP in Chrzanów. He is also head of the Chair of Vascular Surgery at the Academy of Silesia. His work includes clinical research and implementation of new medical technologies in the field of vascular surgery. As a principal investigator or co-researcher, he has participated in numerous hardware clinical trials that have resulted in the introduction of the Polish MER carotid stent (Balton), the Polish PAK drug balloon (Balton), the Ocelot catheter (Avinger), the Serranator catheter (Cagent Vascular), and the Flex catheter (Venture Med) to the global medical market.
Rafał Obuchowicz

Rafał Obuchowicz, currently works at the Radiology Department of the University Hospital. He is the head of Krakow Imaging Diagnostics in the Luxmed Group. His professional interests focus on focal lesion detection and shape detection in a variety of radiological techniques, using both classical methods and deep machine learning algorithms. The result of his work in this field is an ongoing NCBiR project: entitled “XR-AI Diagnostic viewer for radiology with computer-aided use of artificial intelligence”, of which he is the principal investigator and medical team leader. His professional interest in image quality analysis of MR and X-ray techniques resulted in a habilitation thesis entitled “Analysis and parameterisation of information in selected radiological diagnostic techniques”. His hobbies include environmental psychology, the history, and ecology of urbanisation.

Deputy Managing Director EIT Health InnoStars
Ferenc Pongrácz is Deputy Managing Director EIT Health InnoStars. He has extended international management experience in business leadership positions, including Managing Director and Business Line Leader at one of the IBM subsidiaries in Hungary and a Business Development Executive role in Central and Eastern Europe. He was the Chief Innovation Officer of Tungsram Group, a spin-off of General Electric. During his carrier, he has been involved in multiple healthcare-related projects, for example, the first implementation of IBM’s Watson for Oncology, an AI-based expert system in the CEE region.
Jakub Rybka

Prof. Jakub Dalibor Rybka, MBA is currently serving as a Full Professor and Vice-Director at the Center for Advanced Technology, Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU) in Poznań, Poland. Prof. Rybka is one of the first full professors in the biotechnology discipline in Poland. His academic journey includes a PhD in modular antibody engineering from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna, followed by a habilitation on the use of nanomaterials in biotechnology from AMU. Prof. Rybka’s research focuses on 3D bioprinting, nanomaterials, and tissue engineering, with numerous publications and patents in these fields. He is also the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder at SpinBionic (first biotech spin-of company of AMU).

Krzysztof Sanetra is a distinguished cardiac surgeon associated with the Polish-American Heart Clinics in Bielsko-Biała. He specializes in both classic and minimally invasive cardiac procedures,. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Sanetra has contributed significantly to medical research as the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications.

Anna Slian is a graduate of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology, where she gained extensive knowledge in artificial intelligence, data analysis, and programming. She is currently continuing her education at the Joint Doctoral School at the Silesian University of Technology, working on her doctoral dissertation titled “Development of Image Processing Methods for Computer-Aided Diagnosis of Actinic Keratosis.”
Her research focuses primarily on the analysis of multimodal data and the application of artificial intelligence, with a particular emphasis on deep neural networks for information extraction, object segmentation, and classification.
Michał Sobota

Michał Sobota, PhD, DSc, has been researcher at the Center of Polymer and Carbon Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Zabrze since 2004. His investigation are focused on the synthesis, processing and development of biodegradable, polymeric materials for biomedical purposes, especially for cardiological implants and healing wound dressing. Currently, he works on bioresorbable vasculary scaffolds and synthesis of polymersomes for drug delivery.

Witold Walke is a associate professor at the Silesian University of Technology, since 2011 employed at the Department of Biomaterials and Medical Devices Engineering at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. He is a graduate of the Silesian University of Technology, (Automation and Robotics, Biomechanics and Medical Devices). In 2006, he began working as an assistant professor at the Institute of Engineering and Biomedical Materials at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. He obtained his habilitation in technical sciences in the discipline of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering at the Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw in 2017.

Scientist, lecturer, instructor, designer of modern electronic device solutions. A graduate of Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Telecommunications of the Silesian University of Technology, graduated with distinction at every stage and gained valuable knowledge in the fields of designing and programming of microprocessor systems. PhD thesis defended with honors in the discipline of Mechanics (Biomechanics) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology, presenting a modern approach to diagnostic and therapeutic systems using Virtual Reality Technology. Former chairman of VRTechnology LLC, main goal of which was to implement solutions using spatial projection and motion analysis systems for military applications.
Wojciech Wojakowski

Prof. Wojakowski is highly experienced in the diagnosis and interventional treatment of valvular heart disease, ischemic heart disease, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. His expertise includes coronary artery angioplasty, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), mitral valve repair, and left atrial appendage closure procedures.
In addition to his clinical work, he is actively involved in scientific research and educational initiatives.
