The objective of the project BioMeDiG is to provide comprehensive support for the development of academic staff and doctoral students of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology (WIB SUT), to improve the quality and accessibility of the Faculty’s educational offer, to support secondary school students, and to intensify the transfer of knowledge and technology to and from the economy, while fostering the development of the potential of Silesian biomedical engineering in response to the challenges of the digital and green economy.

Project activities include:

  1. Support for knowledge and technology transfer, particularly in the area of the green and digital economy
    (e.g. industrial internships for academic staff in domestic and international enterprises, a digital technology hub for medicine, practical training in Polish enterprises).

  2. Enhancing the attractiveness, quality, and accessibility of WIB SUT’s educational offer to enable smart regional transformation
    (e.g. training for academic staff in soft skills and digital competencies, national student internships).

  3. Upgrading scientific laboratories and research facilities
    (e.g. upgrading 9 specialized laboratories, equipping PhD students’ research workstations).

  4. Support for secondary school students
    (e.g. training sessions, workshops, practical classes, individual mentoring for secondary school pupils).

  5. Comprehensive support for the development of academic staff, including PhD students, especially in the area of the green and digital economy
    (e.g. co-financing participation in conferences, publication costs, individual support for doctoral students).

The project’s target group includes academic staff, PhD students, and students of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology, as well as pupils attending secondary schools located in the Functional Urban Areas (FUA) municipalities.

Target Group of the Project

    • The following groups are eligible to participate in the BioMeDiG project:

      • Academic staff of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology,

      • Doctoral students pursuing their PhD studies at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology,

      • Students enrolled in the Biomedical Engineering programme at the Silesian University of Technology,

      • Secondary school students.

      Individuals may benefit from the support offered within the project provided they reside and/or work and/or study within one of the seven subregions of the Silesian Voivodeship defined in the Territorial Plan for Just Transition of the Silesian Voivodeship 2030 (TPJT), i.e.: the Katowice, Sosnowiec, Tychy, Bytom, Gliwice, Rybnik, and Bielsko subregions.

  • Targeted development of higher education focused on the needs of the green economy.
  • Creation of conditions for professional development.
  • Development of vocational education in cooperation with entrepreneurs and universities, in particular in accordance with regional smart and technological specializations.
  • Increasing the research, development, and implementation potential of the R&D sector.
  • Strengthening institutional potential, including the staff implementing the transformation process.
  • Building a comprehensive system for monitoring transformation processes.
  • Cooperation between local government units and social and economic partners participating in the transformation process based on dialogue and open communication.
