Prof. PhD DSc Eng. Agata Jakóbik-Kolon receives the Title of Professor!

We are delighted to announce that, by order of the President of the Republic of Poland of July 21, 2025, PhD DSc Eng. Agata Jakóbik-Kolon has been awarded the title of Professor of Engineering and Technical Sciences in the discipline of Chemical Engineering.

A distinguished specialist in chemical engineering, she has been associated with the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology for many years, where she also serves as Chair of the Chemical Engineering Discipline Council. Her research focuses on issues related to the separation of difficult-to-separate element pairs, chemical analytics in complex matrices, the design of hybrid biosorbents for heavy metal removal, and the development of modern technologies for the treatment of industrial wastewater while simultaneously recovering valuable substances.

Over the past few years, Prof. Jakóbik-Kolon has been working on the development of advanced technologies for the treatment of industrial wastewater. Jakóbik-Kolon has conducted and supervised research commissioned by companies such as PGE GiEK S.A., Energopomiar, Multivalve, and Polymemtech, with a total value of nearly PLN 2.1 million. From 2019 to 2024, she led three research projects aimed at implementing innovative solutions in industrial wastewater treatment – including pilot-scale projects.

Professor Jakóbik-Kolon's scientific achievements include participation in as many as 20 national and international projects (including LIDER, Iuventus Plus, OPUS, GEKON, Horizon 2020, TANGO, Pol-Nor, and PBS), primarily focused on water and wastewater management. She is the author or co-author of 70 publications indexed in the JCR with a total IF of 246,733, as well as 17 patents and 4 know-how, of which two solutions have already been commercialized.

Particularly noteworthy is her co-authorship of the invention entitled "The Process of Removing Boron from Wastewater in a Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Plant with Simultaneous Obtaining of a Valuable Product – Boric Acid," developed jointly with Energopomiar and PGE, was awarded the 2021 Silver Laurel of Innovation in the Stanisław Staszic Competition organized by FSNT NOT.
