The work will focus on the immobilisation of a selected enzyme on silica supports such as MCF and SBA-15. The stability and activity of the enzyme after immobilisation will be determined. The work is design-oriented.

Chemcad simulations of 1,3-Propanediol synthesis using Diels-Alder reaction
The goal of this work will be to prepare a detailed simulation of the production process of 1,3-Propanediol using Diels-Alder reaction with the means of ChemCad software. The simulations should include the dynamic aspects of process control (PID controllers). The candidate should have extensive knowledge concerning the use of CAE software, advanced computer skills and good knowledge of English in order to read scientific papers and documentation.

Synthesis of hierarchical core-shell materials
Experimental work. A synthetic review of the literature and development of a method for the synthesis of materials with a hierarchical core-shell structures, based on over 18 years of experience of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Process Design in obtaining “hierarchical” porous materials. Knowledge of English required to understand English-language literature, good knowledge of laboratory techniques and the basics of sol-gel technology.
