Władysław Kuczewski (1945–1951)

Organizer and first rector. Born in 1887 in Bobrujsko. Graduate of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Institute in Petersburg. Specialist in blast furnaces engineering, for many years worked in industry. Since 1939 professor at the Academy of Mining in Krakow. In 1945 acted as rector of Warsaw Technical University. In 1952-1954 rector of Higher School of Engineering in Katowice.

Michał Śmiałowski (1951–1952)

Born in 1906 in Horodynia, Sambor District. Studied at the Faculty of Chemistry, Lvov Technical University. Specialist in structural corrosion metallurgy. Employed at Lvov Technical University and Warsaw Technical University before World War One. Since 1953 worked in the Polish Academy of Sciences as secretary for science and ecretary at the Division of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology and Geography. Founder of Scientific Section at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Paris. Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Gabriel Kniaginin (1952–1954)

Born in 1905 in Milan. Studied at the Faculty of Metallurgy, Academy of Mining in Krakow. Specialist in steel and steel casting. In 1933-1949 worked at the Silesian Metallurgical Plan and since 1975 at the Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Krakow.

Zbigniew Jasicki (1954–1956)

Born in 1915 in Zawadzkie ( Cieszyn Silesia). Studied at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Warsaw Technical University. Specialist in power engineering grids and systems. In 1952-1954 dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Since 1961 employed at Poznan Technical University, in 1962-1969 as rector.

Stanisław Ochęduszko (1956–1959)

Born in 1899 in Lesko. Studied at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Lvov Technical University. During employment at the Department of the Theory of Heat Machines he had research internships in Zurich and Munich. Specialist in thermodynamics. In 1954-1956 first dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Heat Engineering, Silesian University of Technology. Honoris Causa Doctorate of the Silesian University of Technology. Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Tadeusz Laskowski (1959–1965)

Born in 1901 in Rudniki, Śniatyń District. Studied at the Academy in Mining in Krakow. Worked in the mining industry for many years. Employed at the Academy of Mining and Metallurgy, Krakow, and Polish Institute of Mining, and since 1950 at the Silesian University of Technology. Specialist in mechanical treatment of coal.

Jerzy Szuba (1965–1974)

Born in Samara (Russia). Studied at the Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw Technical University. Soldier of September 1939 and member of the Polish Resistance. Specialist in chemical technology of coal. Since 1959 employed at the Silesian University of Technology, in 1960-1962 dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, and in 1962-1965 vice rector. Honoris Causa Doctorate of the Institute of Electrotechnical Engineering in Novosibirsk.

Jerzy Nawrocki (1974–1981)

Born in 1926 in Trzciana near Rzeszów. Studied at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Silesian University of Technology. Specialist in treatment of mineral deposits. Vice rector in 1970-1974, in 1981 Minister of Science, Higher Education and Technology. Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Honoris Causa Doctorate of the Institute of Electrotechnical Engineering in Novosibirsk.

Ryszard Petela (1981–1982)

Born in 1933 in Jarosław. Studied at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Silesian University of Technology. Specialist in thermal technology. Research internships in England, Canada, Hungary. Dismissed from the position of rector after the imposition of the Martial Law. Left the University in 1984.

Marian Starczewski (1982–1984)

Born in 1924 in Stary Sącz. Studied at the Faculty of Chemistry, Silesian University of Technology. Specialist in construction materials technology and corrosion. Employed at chemical and construction plants, and since 1950 at the Silesian University of Technology, in 1969-1981 as vice rector. Later worked at Warsaw Technical University.

Antoni Niederliński (1984–1987)

Born in 1937 in Katowice. Studied at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Silesian University of Technology. Specialist in automatic control. Scholarship in Cambridge. Lecturer in Bochum, Birmingham, Lyngby. Vice rector in 1981-1982

Born in 1941 in Czaniec (near Bielsko-Biała). Studied at the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering, Silesian University of Technology. Specialist in heat machines. In 1975-1981 dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Wilibald Winkler (1990–1996)

Born in 1933 in Zabrze. Studied at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Silesian University of Technology. Worked in the power industry for 15 years. Since 1966 employed at the Silesian University of Technology. Specialist in electric power engineering. In 1997-2000 vice minister of Education. Silesian Voivode in 2000-2001.

Born on September 6th 1946 in Zabrze. Studied at the Faculty of Automatic Control, Silesian University of Technology. Specialist in digital systems. Vice rector for didactics in 1990-1996.

Born in 1938 in Ruda Śląska. Studied at the Faculty of Chemistry, Silesian University of Technology. Specialist in organic chemistry. Vice rector in 1996-2002.

Andrzej Karbownik (2008–2016)

Born in 1947 in Orzesze. Graduate of the Faculty of Mining, Silesian University of Technology. Dean of the Faculty of Organization and Management in 2002-2008. Director of the National Agency for Hard Coal Mining Restructuring for two terms of office. Vice minister of economy in 2000-2001, responsible for the fuels and energy sector. Honoris Causa Doctorate of Oviedo University.
