CLIL and other projects

* The fifth edition of the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) project differed significantly from previous projects. As usual, it involved second-year students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and was conducted in cooperation between this Faculty and the Foreign Language Centre, but because of the high interest of students in participating in the project, for the first time, apart from the advanced group (C1 English level), an intermediate group (B2 level) also took part.

Due to the pandemic and the need to continue teaching remotely, the practical side of the project (work in the laboratory on concrete objects) could not be implemented, which certainly reduced the attractiveness of the entire project.

In this year's CLIL, students created interesting and diverse designs of concrete decorative and functional forms (including lamps, flower pots, dumbbells, jewellery and picture frames), which for the first time were to be made of coloured concrete.

The added value of the project is also establishing cooperation with new companies that provided building materials for the implementation of design tasks, such as: BAUTECH Industry (dispersed reinforcement), ZWUKSO (pigments) and a large cement warehouse.

Despite the inability to implement the technical part, the project was very positively assessed by students in an anonymous survey. Here are some examples (in translation):

"We are very sorry that the CLIL project could not be realized this year, but while still at the university, we found that the whole idea of CLIL is fantastic and helps us develop in a way that is not provided by any other subject. Thank you. '

'' The project is very interesting, I think that much more can be learned in this form of class, because we do not learn words from books, but from useful more practical exercises ''

‘It was awesome! Despite the lack of classes at the university and the related lack of design classes, the remote classes were really great '.

We hope that some of the unrealized ideas and materials we have received will be used in future editions of the project.

As usual, the content of the project was supervised by Małgorzata Gołaszewska, PhD, and the language coordinators were Iwona Seta-Dąbrowska, MA, and Janusz Sroka, MA.
