Establishing cooperation with the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Czech Metrology Institute.
We are proud to announce that scientific research cooperation has been established with two prestigious international scientific institutions: the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) from the United States and the Czech Metrology Institute (CMI) from the Czech Republic. Importantly, the initiative for this cooperation came from these institutions themselves. The collaboration has already taken a legally formalized shape through bilateral cooperation agreements, and its first outcomes include internships undertaken by young scientists.
The NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology, https://www.nist.gov/) is a U.S. federal agency serving a role similar to that of Poland's Central Office of Measures. NIST is one of the oldest physical science laboratories in the U.S. Research, services, expertise, and precision measurements carried out by NIST are applied in numerous fields of science, engineering, and the economy.
The CMI (https://www.cmi.cz/?language=en) is the largest certified state entity in the Czech Republic, dealing with the calibration and control of measurement devices, establishing national standards in metrology, and conducting scientific research in this field. In October 2023, Dr. Věra Nováková Zachovalová from CMI completed an internship at our department. Currently, preparations are underway to launch a European research project involving CMI and the Silesian University of Technology.
