Department history

The Department of Electrical Metering was established in 1945. Initially, it was conducted by a contract professor, M.Sc. Edward Niwiąski. At the end of 1947, the head of the Department was taken over by the deputy professor mgr inż. Wincenty Podlacha, academic teacher of the Lviv Polytechnic.

In 1956, a new direction of the Department's activity was created - the Department of Measurements of Non-electrical Quantities, led by prof. related MSc. Edmund Romer. It was the first significant event in the process of transforming electro-energy metrology into modern electrical metrology.

In 1961, prof. MSc. Mieczysław Pluciński. And from that date began the dynamic development of the facility under his control. The number of research and teaching staff and promoted doctors increased, the teaching and research facilities of the Department were enriched, and regular seminars and conferences were organized.

In 1964, the Department of Non-electric Measurement was established in the Department under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Eng. Richard Hagel.

In 1969, as a result of a change in the structure of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electrical Technology and Metrology was established, including the Department of Electrical Metrology, the Group of Electrical Machines and the High Voltage Insulation Materials and Systems Group. After the latter group was separated in 1971, the Institute of Metrology and Electrical Machines was established from the other two units. In 1973, an independent Department of Electrical Machines was established, and the Institute took the name of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Metrology.

In 1988, the name of the Institute was revised to better suit the teaching profile and interests of employees. The Institute took the name of the Institute of Electrotechnical Metrology and Automation. Since 1984, i.e. since the retirement of prof. MSc. M. Pluciński, until 2003 the director of the Institute was prof. dr hab. Eng. Brunon Szadkowski. During this period, new curricula for basic and specialization subjects conducted by the Institute were implemented, new laboratory stands were developed and the existing ones were modernized, and many textbooks and scripts for students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering were published.

In 2006, the name of the Institute was changed. Currently, it is the Institute of Metrology, Electronics and Automation. From 2006 to September 2009, the Director of the Institute was prof. dr hab. Eng. Tadeusz Skubis.
