Start - Education - Civil Engineering – BSc Programme - Program History
Program History
The history of the program dates back to 2004. During one of the Faculty Board meetings, Professor Stanisław Majewski presented a proposal to start a new program held in English in the academic year 2005/2006.
The main argument for this idea was that the studies would be particularly attractive to foreign students and those Polish graduates for whom completing studies in English would be an additional advantage when applying for a job on the European market. During the meeting, the name "Macrocourse" for the new program was proposed. The program was planned to run for 4 years (Civil Engineering - 4-year BSc course).
The study program included a basic program and selected specialization subjects representing the syllabi of the Civil Engineering program (held in Polish) at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Optional subjects were created to enable the adaptation of the study program according to the personal interests of students. During Semester 7, a professional work experience (student placement) was planned on the basis of employment in industry as an integral part of the studies. The proposed program took into account the results of the project "Studies and Recommendations on Core Curricula for Civil Engineering" conducted as part of the European thematic network European Civil Engineering Education and Training (EUCEET) within the Socrates-Erasmus program. The project brought together 101 European Civil Engineering Faculties and ended with a document presenting results of a survey aiming at comprising the best practice from the higher education experience and traditions of the Old Continent.
