Graduates of this specialty receive education in designing building structures, in particular they are prepared for works related to
- construction, maintenance and modernization of buildings
- production of building materials and elements.
The division into specialties is made during the engineering studies after the first year of studies. From among 3 specialties, the most popular one is Structural Engineering, the leading and the most numerous specialty at the Faculty.
Graduates of this specialization receive a thorough education covering theory and practice of designing and erecting all types of structures, in the broadly understood field of urban and industrial construction, bridges and geotechnics. In the first period of studies, students acquire knowledge of theoretical subjects, necessary to master the basics of designing buildings.
In the following years, this knowledge is focused on the ability to independently solve design problems in the field of reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, steel, masonry and timber structures, and later on selected entire buildings. During this period, under the supervision of experienced faculty members, students carry out a number of independent projects of various types of structures and objects, including cubature, industrial and transportation structures. They also have the opportunity - as the only specialization in Poland - to prepare themselves in the field of securing buildings against the effects of coal mining.
An important element of the studies is a semester-long practical training in design and construction units cooperating with the Faculty. It allows confronting the knowledge obtained in the course of studies with construction practice, thus constituting an extremely valuable and useful element of the didactic process.
SE specialization within the scope of bachelor's degree studies prepares to work in design and executive units. Broad and universal scope of knowledge gained during the studies is a guarantee of employment.
Completion of first degree studies paves the way for further studies as part of the second degree studies, preparing among others to obtain design qualifications in the selected diploma profile or related profiles.
Available diploma profiles (second degree studies):

Civil and Industrial Structures

Geotechnics

Bridges with BIM technology
