Conference Computational Oncology and Personalized Medicine - HERE and NOW! has come to an end
Wednesday, April 21, 2021, marked the end of the first conference organized under the Priority Research Area (POB1): Computational Oncology and Personalized Medicine. Although it was organized in an online format due to the COVID-19 pandemic (caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus), it was very well attended.
The conference was an opportunity to meet, exchange information and strengthen the already established cooperation of engineers from the Silesian University of Technology, among others, with medical partners. Topics of the conference included: computational oncology, personalized medicine, biomaterials and medical biotechnology, computer imaging, telemedicine, biomechanics, drug analysis and design, and public health.
During the conference (there were 7 sessions, including 4 parallel ones) as many as 35 papers qualified for presentation by the Conference Committee were presented in total, as well as a plenary invited lecture on "3D (bio)printing for personalized medicine" which was delivered by Dr Małgorzata Włodarczyk-Biegun (representing the Biotechnology Centre of the Silesian University of Technology and the laboratory of Polymer Science, Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials, University of Groningen). We registered 133 participants who logged on to the conference broadcast, and the most numerous plenary session gathered as many as 97 listeners!
The conference was held under the patronage of His Magnificence Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Dr. hab. inż. Arkadiusz Mężyk and was covered by the media patronage of Polish Radio Katowice, Science in Poland PAP service (naukawpolsce.pap.pl / scienceinpoland.pap.pl/en), Forum Akademickie (https://forumakademickie.pl/), Polish Biochemical Society, Polish Chemical Society and Portal Biotechnologia.pl, which, we hope, also contributed to the popularization and promotion in the socio-economic environment, both of the scientific research conducted and the Silesian University of Technology itself.
We would like to thank the speakers, participants and listeners for their participation in large numbers. We hope that the discussions initiated during the conference will contribute to the conduct of new, joint, interdisciplinary and interesting research, and their result will be the tools to assist doctors during ongoing therapy, more effective and less invasive diagnostic methods or new drugs.
Abstracts of oral presentations are available for download from the conference website: http://copm.polsl.pl/.
We invite you to participate in the COPM conference next year!
