Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends of POB1,
With the October events marking the beginning of the academic year behind us, we're returning to our monthly POB1 seminars. We'll kick this semester off with a lecture:
“Introduction to Trustworthy Federated Learning with medical applications”
and our speakers will be Kristina Stemikovskaya and Idoia Gamiz.

Joanna Polańska
Idoia Gamiz Ugarte holds a degree in Mathematics, specializing in Applied Mathematics, from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), where she also earned a master’s degree in Mathematical Modelling, Research, Statistics, and Computing. She is currently completing her doctoral thesis within the Mobile Network Information and Communication Technologies doctoral program at UPV/EHU. Idoia is a member of the Core Cybersecurity & DLTs research team in the DIGITAL unit at the research center TECNALIA, where she participates in national and international research projects. Her main research interests include cybersecurity, advanced cryptography, secure data exploitation, and federated learning. She has also taught the course Algorithms and Advanced Cryptographic Techniques in the master’s program on Cybersecurity in Industry 4.0 of UPV/EHU.
Kristina Stemikovskaya received her Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics in 2012 from the Moscow State Institute of Electronics and Mathematics. She earned her Master's degree in Computational Engineering and Intelligent Systems in 2014 from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). From 2017 to 2020, Kristina worked as an Undergraduate Researcher in the Intelligent Systems research group within the Faculty of Computer Science at UPV/EHU. Between 2020 and 2022, she was employed at the information security startup Acuratio, where she focused on developing algorithms for Federated Learning. Starting in 2022, Kristina holds the position of Data Scientist Researcher in the TECNALIA RESEARCH & INNOVATION Digital department. Her work involves various projects related to artificial intelligence, with a specific focus on Neurorehabilitation, Information Security, and Federated Learning within the Health industry. She is currently pursuing part-time doctoral studies at the University of Granada (UGR).
