It is with deep sadness that we received the news of the passing of Mariusz Wnęk, PhD, a long-time academic teacher at the Silesian University of Technology, who passed away on October 15, 2026, at the age of 54.

Dr. Mariusz Wnęk graduated in 1997 from the Faculty of Materials Engineering, Metallurgy and Transport, majoring in Transport. In 2000, he began his doctoral studies, pursuing research under the supervision of Prof. Jerzy Tomeczek on the dissertation entitled "Investigation of a heat regenerator integrated with a gas burner for high-temperature reheating furnaces". In 2005, he was awarded his doctoral degree. He began his career at the Silesian University of Technology in October 2005 as an assistant professor in the Department of Process Power Engineering at the Faculty of Materials Engineering and Metallurgy. From 2010, Dr. Mariusz Wnęk worked in the Department of Metallurgy, and from 2013 in the Department of Industrial Informatics. He was a Marie Curie Fellow at Cardiff University, as well as a highly regarded educator and researcher, honored, among other distinctions, with the Rector's Award of the Silesian University of Technology.
