Department of Industrial Informatics Researchers at UIE and HES 2026
From 15 to 18 September 2026, two jointly organized events were held: the UIE – International Union for Electricity Applications Congress and the HES – International Conference on Heating by Electromagnetic Sources.
Representatives of the Department of Industrial Informatics at the Silesian University of Technology took part in the events: Prof. Albert Smalcerz, Dr Adrian Smagór, MSc Jakub Wyciślik, and Prof. Jerzy Barglik. The congress was also attended by Dr Krzysztof Konopka, from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology.
The event brought together 90 participants from 16 countries, who presented a total of 59 scientific papers. The programme included nine thematic sessions, a poster session, and a panel discussion devoted to artificial intelligence and the electrification of thermal processes.
Presentations by researchers from the Silesian University of Technology
During the congress, four presentations prepared by researchers from our University were delivered:
- Session S3 – Induction Heating: Coil Design and Applications
Krzysztof Konopka and Jerzy Barglik presented the paper entitled Induction Surface Hardening of Steel Workpieces – Examples of Applications. - Session S5 – Artificial Intelligence and Numerical Modelling for Electroheat
Jakub Wyciślik and Sławomir Golak presented the paper entitled Comparison of Methods Based on Surrogate Models on the Example of Induction Heating Process Optimization. - Session S6 – Optimization, Measurement and Safety
Albert Smalcerz and Roman Przyłucki presented the paper entitled Some Aspects of Temperature Measurements in Induction Heating Systems. - Session S8 – Electromagnetic Melting, Metallurgical Processes and Modelling
Adrian Smagór, Paweł Gradoń, Grzegorz Moskal and Agnieszka Tomaszewska presented the paper entitled The Influence of Heating Power on the Sinters Microstructure of New Cobalt Superalloys from the Co-Al-W and Co-Ni-Al-W Systems.
Silesian University of Technology PhD student at the UIE-AMPERE PhD School
An important part of the event was the UIE-AMPERE PhD School – PhD Intensive Course 2026, attended by MSc Jakub Wyciślik, a PhD student at the Silesian University of Technology.
The course brought together several dozen PhD students from several countries. The programme included lectures delivered by experts in three thematic areas:
1. Microwave Heating
- Prof. Paolo Veronesi, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia,
- Prof. Luca Perregrini, University of Pavia.
2. Multiphysics Numerical Modeling
- Dr Riccardo Torchio, University of Padova.
3. Optimization
- Dr Francesco Lucchini, University of Padova.
Participants also had the opportunity to take part in practical sessions as part of the Microwave Heating and Advanced Numerical Modeling laboratories.
UIE Congress to be held in Poland in 2029
Another important event was the meeting of the UIE Scientific Committee, held on 16 September. The meeting was attended by Prof. Albert Smalcerz, Prof. Jerzy Barglik, and Dr Adrian Smagór.
One of the key decisions made during the meeting was to entrust Poland with hosting the next UIE Congress in 2029. It was agreed that the event would be held in Katowice at the turn of May and June 2029.
Hosting the congress in Poland will be an important event for the scientific community working on applications of electrical energy, electromagnetic heating, and modern materials processing technologies.
