Silesian University of Technology Science Days – 9–10 April 2026

The Silesian University of Technology invites you to the next edition of the Science Days, which will take place on 9–10 April 2026. This event presents the University’s research potential and the strategic directions of scientific development implemented within the framework of six Priority Research Areas (POB). This year’s edition will bring together distinguished scientists from Poland and abroad – leaders of international research projects, including ERC grant holders, recognised experts with an established scientific reputation, as well as representatives of the academic community and the socio-economic environment.

During the two-day event, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest scientific and implementation achievements, emerging research directions, and examples of cooperation between science and business. The programme has an interdisciplinary character – combining reflection on global trends in science with discussions on innovation, commercialisation and knowledge transfer. Particular attention will be devoted to issues of strategic importance, including security, dual-use technologies and space research.

The Science Days will begin on 9 April at 9:00 a.m. with the inauguration of the 4th International POB Conference, during which participants will discuss the most important challenges of contemporary science and technology, as well as the role of universities in building research excellence in a rapidly changing world. The theme of the first day will be “The Potential and Development of Interdisciplinary Research in the Face of Contemporary Scientific and Technological Challenges.”

The conference will open with a lecture by Prof. Paolo Gamba from the University of Pavia – a specialist in remote sensing and satellite data processing and an IEEE Fellow. In his talk entitled “Space Technologies for AI and Quantum Computing in Earth Observation”, Professor Gamba will present the importance of space technologies for the development of artificial intelligence and quantum computing in Earth observation, emphasising the interdisciplinary nature of modern research and the importance of cooperation between academia, the space sector and industry.

The first day of the event will also include a panel discussion with the keynote speaker, as well as two plenary sessions devoted to experiences in conducting interdisciplinary research and to new directions in the development of science in the face of contemporary civilisational and technological challenges.

The second day of the Science Days – 10 April – will focus on issues related to innovation, commercialisation and knowledge transfer. The leading theme of this part of the event is “Innovation, Commercialisation and Knowledge Transfer – Innovations that Work: from Laboratory to Implementation.”

The opening lecture entitled “Engineering Bone at the Intersection of Nature and Technology” will be delivered by Prof. Maria Pau Ginebra Molins, an ERC grant holder, who will present the pathway from fundamental research to practical applications and discuss the challenges related to the commercialisation of research results in the academic environment.

The programme of the second day will include a panel discussion on the development of academic innovation as well as expert sessions devoted to the implementation potential of research results, university–industry cooperation, and models of commercialisation and the creation of spin-off companies.

The Science Days are addressed to researchers and academic teachers of the Silesian University of Technology, doctoral candidates, students and administrative staff supporting research activities. Representatives of business, industry, public institutions and other organisations interested in scientific cooperation are also welcome to participate in the event.

The conference will take place at the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice (18B Konarskiego Street). The working language of the event will be English. Participation in the conference is free of charge, but prior registration is required, which will be open from 4 March to 2 April 2026.

The event will also include poster sessions for young researchers and doctoral candidates, presentations by student scientific associations, and information stands concerning project support and research commercialisation.
