Doctoral School

The Doctoral School is a university-wide unit (RJO15) established by a resolution of the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology dated 28 May 2018.
The Doctoral School is intended to ensure a high level and flexibility of the doctoral education system and ensure the Silesian University of Technology activation in EU international programmes for doctoral studies.
The coordination of activities within the Doctoral School is carried out by the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs of Education and the administrative service of the Doctoral School is provided by the Department of Student Affairs and Education.

The School of Doctoral Studies shall be headed by a Director. After consultation with the senate, the director is appointed by the rector from among academic staff employed as professors, with recognised academic achievements and experience in personnel training. The tasks of the Director of the Doctoral School are defined in §46, para. 8 of the Statutes of the Silesian University of Technology. The consultative and advisory body of the Director is the Doctoral Training Board, which is appointed by the Rector. The composition of the Council for Doctoral Training and its tasks are laid down in §47 of the Statutes.

The Doctoral School organises the process of doctoral training, including office and administrative support and providing services to doctoral students in matters related to their statuses, such as scholarships, the grading period, and the organisation of mid-term assessments. A doctoral school shall cover at least two disciplines. Doctoral schools shall be established by the rector after consultation with the senate. A doctoral school may also be established based on an agreement jointly with another academic institution, a research institute or an international institute. The rector shall agree in consultation with the senate.
