On 8 April 2022, the Department of Waste Management Technologies and Equipment at the Silesian University of Technology and the Foundation for Aluminium Packaging Recovery RECAL organise a hybrid conference entitled. "Optimization of waste sorting process - non-ferrous metals".

Striving to achieve high levels of municipal waste recycling requires the use of the best available technologies for sorting and processing. Municipal installations are a key element of the waste management system, because it is there that the waste stream is delivered, from which raw materials for recycling are separated. Therefore, in order to increase the amount of secondary raw materials separated, it is necessary to optimise the process of their sorting. In order to become competitive in the market, managers of municipal installations should think about their expansion and modernisation, take management measures so that they achieve the recovery and recycling levels and at the same time meet the legal requirements, which undoubtedly includes the separation of aluminium packaging.

During the conference, we will present details of research on the effectiveness of the process of sorting non-ferrous metals, with particular emphasis on aluminium packaging and the morphological composition of the fraction separated by eddy current separators at municipal facilities in Poland in 2021.

The research was carried out in cooperation with and with the support of the RECAL Foundation within the project entitled "Analysis of the effectiveness of packaging sorting". Analysis of the efficiency of sorting aluminium packaging waste in municipal waste sorting plants in Poland" carried out in the framework of the III competition for funding projects of student scientific circles (Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme) for the Student Scientific Circle of Closed-circuit Economy, which took 3rd place on the ranking list of more than 100 submitted projects.

The event is aimed at municipal waste management practitioners, in particular representatives of local governments, municipal installations, waste management companies and representatives of companies providing technical solutions in the field of non-ferrous metals separation.

We have invited experts from the waste management industry, scientists and practitioners to speak. Their papers are intended to become a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the subject of optimal waste management, including the conduct of the non-ferrous metal sorting process.
