Faculty of Organization and Management celebrates the start of the 2026/2027 Academic Year
The inauguration of the 2026/2027 academic year at the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology took place on 5 October, with the participation of students, doctoral students, staff members and numerous invited guests.
– This is a special moment in which we reflect on the Faculty’s thirty years of activity while at the same time setting ambitious goals for the future, so that together we can continue to build an environment that inspires scientific, research and teaching activities. I am therefore particularly pleased that our first-year students are here with us today. I wish you a period of study filled with passion, the discovery of new opportunities and possibilities, the development of new competences, and friendships that may last a lifetime – emphasised Prof. Aleksandra Kuzior, Dean of the Faculty.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the Dean welcomed guests who are particularly important to the academic community in Zabrze. The Rector of the Silesian University of Technology was represented by Prof. Bożena Skołud, Vice-Rector for General Affairs. The event was also attended by, among others, Prof. Marek Gzik, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education; Kamil Żbikowski, Mayor of Zabrze, who also serves as Chairman of the Faculty’s Social Council; Members of the Polish Parliament Urszula Koszutska and Dr Tomasz Głogowski; Grzegorz Olejniczak, Chairman of the Zabrze City Council; and Dr Małgorzata Mańka-Szulik, Vice-Rector of the Silesian Academy in Katowice. Representatives of other faculties of the Silesian University of Technology, members of the Faculty’s Social Council and former deans of the Faculty were also present.
Prof. Aleksandra Kuzior gave a presentation introducing the audience to the activities and distinctive character of the Faculty. She discussed the degree programmes offered, including the newly launched Public Safety and Crisis Management programme, which responds to current political and economic challenges. She also highlighted the scientific achievements of the Faculty’s staff, reflected in publications in prestigious international journals as well as awards and scholarships received. She presented research projects obtained and carried out by Faculty staff and introduced the student scientific associations that bring students together and encourage their active involvement.
– This is an excellent opportunity to emphasise the importance of the Faculty of Organization and Management in building the scientific, educational and expert potential of the Silesian University of Technology. For many years, the Faculty has been an important part of our University. Its contribution to educating future leaders of the economy is particularly valuable – said Prof. Bożena Skołud, Vice-Rector for General Affairs of the Silesian University of Technology.
– Over the years, our University’s campus in Zabrze has evolved considerably. This has been possible thanks to bold decisions and consistency in implementing them. We have ambitious plans that respond to the needs of our social environment. We wish to continue expanding the campus, which would not be possible without the support of the local government – added Prof. Marek Gzik, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education. – I would also like to express my appreciation to all academic staff for the impressive achievements presented by the Dean. I also congratulate the students and doctoral students on their choice of the University and the Faculty.
– The students have chosen an excellent place in which to prepare for the development of their professional careers. The Faculty of Organization and Management is a source of pride for the city. We are delighted that another cohort is beginning its studies in Zabrze and will gain knowledge at a Faculty characterised by such a positive atmosphere and offering such extensive opportunities for learning and development – emphasised Kamil Żbikowski, Mayor of Zabrze.
– You will be the ones managing teams of people in the future. I wish you not only to gain knowledge, but also to meet people with whom you will want to put that knowledge into practice. Studying is about commitment and active participation – concluded Jarosław Zagórowski, Director of the Central Mining Institute – National Research Institute and Chairman of the Faculty Alumni Association.
Jan Wołczyński, Chairman of the Student Government Council of the Faculty of Organization and Management, also addressed the gathered guests. A particularly important part of the inauguration ceremony was the matriculation of first-year students. This part of the ceremony was conducted by Prof. Katarzyna Dohn, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Education.
The inaugural lecture was delivered by Prof. Johannes Stephan from TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany, an expert in economics and international relations.
Thanking Prof. Stephan for his interesting lecture, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Aleksandra Kuzior, also emphasised that the authorities of the Silesian University of Technology and TU Bergakademie Freiberg had recently signed a double degree agreement covering the Cognitive Technologies programme at the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology and the MBA programme at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. This provides students of these programmes with an excellent opportunity to obtain two diplomas simultaneously. The double degree programme has also been incorporated into the broader EURECA-PRO European Universities Alliance.
