History

The Department of Industrial Computer Science derives from the Department of Electrotechnology (established in 2000) headed from the beginning by prof. Czesław Sajdak, then by prof. Krzysztof Kurek, then by prof. Tadeusz Wieczorek. In 2009. it was transformed into the Department of Management and IT (headed by Prof. T. Wieczorek), which in 2013 was transformed into the present Department of Industrial Computer Science (headed by Prof. T. Wieczorek). Currently, the Department of Industrial Computer Science has 17 employees, including 6 professors and 6 doctoral students. In terms of didactics, the activity of the Department focuses on leading the field of Industrial Computer Science.

The first-cycle studies with a practical profile include the following specializations: Industrial Computer Systems, Computer Programming.

The following specializations are taught in the master's studies with a general academic profile: Intelligent Industrial Systems, Computer Programming, Cybersecurity

What we do?

Employees and students have the opportunity to take part in many projects co-financed by European and national funds.

Students, choosing the Department of Industrial Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology, have the opportunity to participate in additional and free of charge:

  • scientific and technical seminars,

  • study visits of IT companies based in Silesia,

  • all types of training conducted at the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering,

  • employee exchanges conducted at the faculty, university and the Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowskej Metropolis (GZM),

  • the Corporate Readiness Certificate (CRC) program, which allows you to gain additional, specialist knowledge in the field of IT and work management systems in large enterprises, as well as learn about new areas of business activity, in order to increase your chances on the labor market.

The aim of the Department is to educate more specialists who are in demand on the labor market due to the continuous modernization of production processes and the wide introduction of intelligent IT systems to the industry.

The department cooperates with many international companies that rely on young and specialized employees.
