History

The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department was established in 2019 but its origins go back to the beginnings of the Silesian University of Technology. The department descends directly from the Department of Electrical Engineering Fundamentals which was organized by one of the well-known founders of modern electrical engineering in Poland, prof. Stanisław Fryze, after his moving to Gliwice from Lwów in 1945. Through the years it changed into the Institute of Basic Problems of Electrical Engineering and Power Electronics, the Institute of Theoretical and Industrial Electrical Engineering and finally the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science including two departments, i.e. (i) Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Telecommunication and (ii) Department of Electrical Machines and Electrical Engineering in Transport.
