COMPETITION RESULTS ARE IN

HAVE YOU EVER...

stopped mid-step because something inconspicuous suddenly caught your eye? A piece of rusty metal, the texture of an old railing, the traces of time etched in the fabric. It's moments like these that make us see more.

Sometimes a walk, daily commute to university, or a moment of silence in the park is enough to notice details that usually elude us. Corrosion is everywhere — quiet, slow, present in the everyday landscape. It doesn't scream, but it tells stories. You just have to know how to notice them.

If you enjoy looking at the world through a camera lens or simply have an eye for detail, this contest is for you. "Corrosion Around Us" is a photography contest open to everyone. We're looking for shots that show corrosion as it truly is — natural, unobvious, and sometimes beautiful in its imperfections.

Equipment and experience don't matter. Mindfulness is key. Freeze the moment, capture it in a photo, and show us what corrosion looks like through your eyes.

On April 24th, the Silesian University of Technology is celebrating World Corrosion Awareness Day for the fourth time. To mark this occasion, we invite you to participate in the next edition of our photography competition, which in previous years (2023, 2024, and 2025) has resulted in the collection of over 300 photographs depicting corrosion present in our everyday surroundings.

Perhaps this year, your gaze will capture the jury's attention, and your captured image will be recognized and published in the industry magazine "Ochrona przed Korozja" (Corrosion Protection). Look around carefully — the stories captured in the material are waiting to be told.

Don't delay. We are accepting competition entries only until April 10, 2026, at 12:00 PM (CEST)

This year’s edition of the “Corrosion Around Us” photography contest enjoyed exceptionally strong interest — we received as many as 116 correctly submitted entries, representing a clear increase compared to last year (73 submissions). The gallery of submitted photographs shimmered with a richness of colors and forms, presenting corrosion in remarkably diverse and inspiring ways.

The high quality of the entries once again made the jury’s deliberations far from easy. After lengthy discussions and careful evaluation, however, it was possible to select three photographs awarded podium places, as well as seven distinguished works that particularly enrich the image of our corrosion-focused community.

We warmly invite you to explore the gallery below — each photograph is accompanied by an author’s description, which adds valuable context and depth to the presented image (simply click or tap on the photo).

We congratulate all participants, and especially the authors of the awarded and distinguished works, while also thanking everyone for the record-breaking interest in the contest. We are already looking forward to your participation in the next edition!
