Second place in the prestigious Edmond N. Bacon Urban Design 2026 urban planning competition
We are delighted and proud to announce our exceptional success.
As a team composed of Kamila Majerska, Joanna Picheta, and Oliwia Lipiec, working at the Silesian University of Technology under the mentorship of Dr. Eng. Arch. Aleksandra Wyrzykowska, we won second place in the prestigious Edmond N. Bacon Urban Design 2026 urban design competition.
The project received recognition from world-class experts in Philadelphia. Yesterday, the awards gala took place in Philadelphia, where we were honored to accept the award and present our vision of modern urban planning. This is not only a great honor and invaluable experience for us, but above all, a motivation for further work.
Our project, titled Chemical Living Network, involves the transformation of the former University of Philadelphia site into a cohesive, sustainable urban organism. The concept is based on a molecular structure, in which individual functions—health, housing, work, education, culture, and environmental protection—constitute "atoms" connected by a dense network of public spaces, green spaces, and pedestrian and bicycle paths. In the revitalization strategy, we placed particular emphasis on respecting the history of the site, while also referencing the former function of the entire campus—the former University of Pharmacy—by adding unique zones, such as the Laboratory.
