The fifth edition of the international and interdisciplinary conference SENSES IN ARCHITECTURE, URBAN LANDSCAPING AND DESIGN, SAUL-Katowice, co-organized by the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, will take place from December 5-7, 2025, at the University of Silesia in Katowice, under the theme "experimentation."

Experimentation appears to be an attractive, integral, and essential element of the design process—of objects, spaces, and entire environments. It takes diverse forms, encompasses many aspects, occurs in many contexts, and carries numerous consequences.

This year's conference will be devoted to the importance (and need?) of experimentation in the theory and practice of design, architecture, and urban planning; experimentation broadly understood, explicit and implicit; interdisciplinary, transcultural, global, and regional. Its costs and benefits, its natural-environmental, cultural, social, economic, health, and legal consequences, and the difficulties associated with its implementation.

The conference speakers and participants included academics and practicing architects from Poland and abroad, including: Tomasz M. Rutkowski (RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project, Japan), Jarosław Kapuściński (Stanford University, USA), Eva Alvarez and Carlos Gomez (carlos gomez+eva alvarez arquitectes, Spain), Joanna and Wojciech Małeccy (Małeccy design studio, Poland), Yui and Takaharu Tezuka (Tezuka Architects, Japan), Davide Ruzzon (TA Tuning Architecture, Italy), and Michael Folwer (TU Berlin, Germany).

The event will be held in English and is intended for researchers, architects, doctoral candidates, students, public administration employees, and design and architecture enthusiasts.

The event is co-organized by the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia in Katowice, the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, the Society of Polish Urban Planners, Silesian Branch, and the Association of Polish Architects (SARP).

The event is held under the honorary patronage of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, Wojciech Saługa, and the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland. It also received funding from the budget of the Marshal's Office of the Silesian Voivodeship.

The media patron of the event is the magazine "Zawód: Architekt," published by the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland.
