„Architecture & Landscape in Conservation Design” - exhibition of students of the Faculty of Architecture in Italy
On September 27, the Angevin-Aragonese Castle in Gaeta (Lazio, Italy) hosted the opening of the exhibition “Architecture & Landscape in Conservation Design: Cassino-Folcara and Gaeta Castle”, which is the result of a research and teaching project carried out as part of the subject “conservation design” at the Department of Theory, Design and History of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology.
The Faculty of Architecture has been cooperating with the University of Cassino for over a decade. We jointly carry out research and teaching projects, double doctorates and publications.
This year's exhibition is part of the event: "European Research Night" 2024-2025 organized by the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (UNICAS) in cooperation with the European University of Technology (EUT+) as part of the European Commission project "Science, Technology and Research for Ethical Engagement Translated in Society" (S.T.R.E.E.T.) HORIZON-MSCA-2023-Citizens-01.
The exhibition presents two groups of projects: - the first is the modernization and expansion of the Folcara academic campus and the integration of its area into the structure of the city of Cassino; - the second is the adaptation of the Gaeta Castle for the needs of the new UNICAS Faculty of Cultural Heritage.
The exhibition aroused great interest among invited guests and visitors. It also sparked a lively discussion with the participation of the University authorities, city authorities and representatives of conservation offices. We hope that the conceptual projects implemented by Polish students will serve as proposals for the development of university spaces. The exhibition was visited by several hundred people on the first day.
The project leader and curator of the exhibition is prof. dr hab. inż. arch. Magdalena Żmudzińska-Nowak, Head of the RAR-3 Department in cooperation with prof. arch. Assunta Pelliccio from the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio.
