Biophilia in architecture
On February 7, 2024, there was a lecture by Dr. Hab. engineer arch. Krzysztof Rostański, prof. World Cup at Kato-Science-Corner, titled "Biophilia in architecture".
The concept is commonly understood as the architectural aestheticization of the human environment. In this form, it is close to the concept of "greenwashing". In a broader sense, the bond with nature is based on:
- participation in natural processes,
- the maximum possible approximation of the architectural environment to the conditions of the natural environment,
- biomimetism drawing on natural patterns.
This broad understanding should guide actions that favor nature and, therefore, humans.
The lecture was the result of cooperation between the Silesian University of Technology, Katowice City of Science and IETU implementing the UPSURGE project regarding greenery in the city.
