The purposes of the Scientific Circle's activities are:
- students' interest in the subject of design in relation to the needs of an aging society through participation in projects and events related to the topic of universal design.
- the possibility of cooperation with local governments, institutions and organizations as well as other scientific associations due to the social relevance of the subject,
- encourages the use of interdisciplinary activities, by increasing the students' competences in related areas of knowledge (sociology, gerontology, environmental psychology, the use of technology)
The implementation of the above tasks takes place through the organization and participation in numerous events and projects, including:
- Participation in the project Architecture, technology - VIRTUAL REALITY. The aim of the project was to create a simulation using virtual reality, giving the ability to test architectural and urban solutions in terms of different user groups. The project is aimed at finding innovative VR applications in architectural design and popularizing knowledge about design for older people.
- Participation in workshops organized in St. Albert Almshouse in Warsaw. The main theme was to create a sensory garden for the elderly in 2018. The 3-day workshop ended with the presentation of two garden concepts which took into account the needs of residents - the elderly and the disabled.
- Working on the subject of aging population is developed through the participation of students who belong to the Scientific Circle LAB 60+, in PBL projects implemented at the Silesian University of Technology: Lens 60+, VR Space with a perspective 60+, Senior furniture at Leonardo LAB and the Elderly Control Center at Leonardo Lab. These are interdisciplinary projects involving architects, IT specialists, bioengineers, and psychogeriatricians.
- A trip to Melle in Germany and participation in the Awards ceremony + exhibition of the Design that Educates Awards 2019 and in the workshop on parametric architecture.
- Participation in international competitions in which the goal of the resulting projects was to promote accessible architecture. Students from the Student Scientific Circle LAB 60+ created projects for such competitions as The City Link and 24h competition lightshadow.
- Participation in workshops organized at the Special School and Education Center in Ziemięcice, which aimed to create a conceptual design of the water zone and playground for children with conjugated disabilities. This year also workshops took place at the Alzheimer's Center in Warsaw.
- Participation in the Innohub workshops: senior (in) the future organized by the Incubator of the University of Warsaw, where students of the Student Scientific Circle LAB 60+ won the main prize for the design of universal jewelry.
