Description of activities: The aim of the project was to verify existing architectural solutions in the context of the degree to which the principles of universal design are implemented, and to supplement with them the “Architectural Accessibility Standards for the City of Zabrze” being developed under the aforementioned grant titled “City as a Space for Development” – recommendations used in the implementation of architectural accessibility in existing and newly designed buildings.
The project consisted in conducting qualitative research in selected architectural facilities with various functional uses, as well as verifying and adapting existing research tools to the conditions found in the analysed spaces. Carrying out the research made it possible to:
- supplement the “Architectural Accessibility Standards for the City of Zabrze” with a set of solutions in the field of universal design,
- create a checklist for assessing the spatial quality of areas and facilities in the city of Zabrze in terms of architectural accessibility.
