POB6 news. Professor Aly Anis Hamouda - In Memoriam

In August of this year, with deep sadness, we said farewell to Professor Aly Anis Hamouda - an outstanding scientist, academic teacher, and a true friend of our community.

Professor Hamouda was a world-class expert in hydrocarbon production and recovery, a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, and a valued member of the International Advisory Board of POB6 at the Silesian University of Technology.

He earned his PhD at the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London, and for the past several years was affiliated with the Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Stavanger in Norway. He lectured and conducted courses at leading universities, including Tromsø, Oslo, and Arkhangelsk, as well as in many other research centers around the world.

Earlier in his career, he spent 15 years at Phillips Petroleum, working as an advisor in production and reservoir engineering, and later at the Conoco Phillips Research Center in Oklahoma, USA, where he carried out research on formation damage in hydrocarbon reservoirs. He led numerous scientific and industrial projects and authored many publications in the field of oil recovery and reservoir performance.
His achievements were recognized with multiple distinctions, including the prestigious Award of Excellence and several R&D Achievement Awards from Phillips Petroleum Company.

Thanks to Professor Hamouda’s collaboration and personal support, within the Polish–Norwegian Research Cooperation Programme, two important projects were successfully carried out at the Silesian University of Technology:
“Design, environmental impact and performance of energized fluids for fracturing oil and gas reservoir rocks of Central Europe” and “Technologies for underground storage of energy and unconventional gas production”.

Professor Hamouda was not only a brilliant researcher but also a remarkably kind, generous, and empathetic person. Always open and supportive, he willingly shared his extensive knowledge, inspiring colleagues, doctoral students, and young researchers. His guidance and encouragement helped many to grow as scientists and individuals.

I had the honor of working with Professor Hamouda and participating in his projects at the University of Stavanger. The memory of this collaboration will remain a lasting source of inspiration and gratitude.

We have lost a great scientist and an exceptional human being - full of passion, humility, and warmth. He will remain in our memory as both a scientific authority and a dear friend.
