POB6 news. Invitation to: “Energy Transition Symposium”, 29.11.2024, 10:00 a.m.
Dear All,
The Organizers of the “Energy Week”, held within the framework of the European Science City Katowice 2024, invite you to:
ENERGY TRANSFORMATION SYMPOSIUM
Symposium Program:
- Energy transformation. From utopia to realism. - Prof. Andrzej Rusin, D.Sc., Eng.
The presentation of the paper included the current state of the national energy system and its comparison with the systems of other countries. It discusses the goals of the energy transition and the planned ways to achieve these goals through changes in the structure of energy generation in the national energy system. For selected transformation scenarios, their effects were shown, in particular on the security and reliability of energy supply. The impact of changes in the national energy mix on global carbon dioxide emissions was estimated.
- How to store energy underground? - Prof. Marcin Lutyński, D.Sc., Eng.
This presentation will outline ways to store energy underground, such as hydrogen storage, compressed air energy storage and natural gas storage. Geological structures that are best suited for this purpose will be discussed, along with their advantages and disadvantages and potential availability worldwide and in Poland.
- Is post-mining infrastructure a weakness or an opportunity for regions in transition? - Konrad Kołodziej, M.Sc.
The presentation focuses on analyzing the impact of post-mining infrastructure on the development of regions undergoing economic transition. With the end of mining operations, these regions face the challenge of transforming the remaining infrastructure in a way that supports their future development. The talk will address potential weaknesses, such as maintenance and adaptation costs, but also the opportunities that can come from reusing space and innovative solutions. Through examples from different parts of the world, strategies and best practices in the revitalization of post-mining areas will be presented.
The Symposium will be held on 29.11.2024, at 10:00 am in Room B100 at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Energy, Gliwice, 18 Konarskiego Street.
You are welcome!
