The summary of the Polish Presidency in the Council of the European Union was the main topic of the meeting of the Program Council at the Ministry of Industry. The event, held on June 27, gathered representatives from academia, politics, finance, public institutions, local governments, and the business sector—particularly the extractive industry.
The meeting was also dedicated to presenting the outcomes of the work on the “White Paper on Sustainable Transformation,” a document outlining planned actions for post-mining areas.
The event served as an opportunity to honor members of the team appointed by the Ministry to prepare the “White Paper on Sustainable Transformation.” Among the group of experts were scholars from the Silesian University of Technology. Minister of Industry, Prof. Marzena Czarnecka, personally presented letters of appreciation to Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, and Prof. Aleksandra Kuzior, Dean of the Faculty of Organization and Management. Dr. Dariusz Krawczyk from the Department of Applied Social Sciences at our Faculty was also recognized for his contributions to the team.
The “White Paper on Sustainable Transformation,” developed by the Ministry of Industry, was prepared in cooperation with the World Bank and the academic community, including researchers from the University of Silesia, the University of Economics in Katowice, the Silesian University of Technology, and the Central Mining Institute – National Research Institute.
In the coming days, the document will be submitted for inter-ministerial and public consultations, with the aim of forming the basis for a national strategy regarding coal regions.
