Technologies in Rescue Services
Firefighters in Zabrze typically activate an automatic traffic light change at intersections when fire trucks are dispatched to a fire. Traffic signals remain red for an extended moment, not only to facilitate passage through the congested city center but also to ensure the safety of other road users who might otherwise stop too close to the fire station exit.
First-year students of the Cognitive Technologies and Social Media program had the opportunity to explore various aspects of the Zabrze firefighters' work. During their study visit, they discussed topics related to the communication aspects of the rescue system, particularly in the areas of notification, documentation, and preventive measures. They also learned about reporting technologies used in uniformed services and information activities utilizing digital media available in cyberspace.
Under the supervision of Senior Captain Grzegorz Gorpiel, commander of the Rescue and Firefighting Unit of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Zabrze, students also examined the equipment used to assist victims of fires, traffic accidents, and structural collapses.
