Publication with the participation of Prof. Agnieszka Fornalczyk in a TOP 10 magazine
An article co-authored by Prof. Agnieszka Fornalczyk, PhD, DSc, Eng., entitled "Recovery of technical Li₂CO₃ from dust obtained after pyrometallurgical processing of Li-ion battery masses on a quarter-technological scale," was published in the journal Waste Management (Elsevier), a TOP 10 journal. The publication received the maximum score in the Polish evaluation system – 200 points from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
The article presents an innovative process for recovering lithium carbonate (Li₂CO₃) from dust generated during the pyrometallurgical processing of used lithium-ion batteries. The research team developed a hybrid method combining pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical techniques. Selective acid leaching was performed as part of the process, yielding Li₂CO₃ with a technical purity of 99%.
The research was conducted on a quarter-technological scale, representing a significant step towards the industrial implementation of this technology. This method enables efficient lithium recovery in a more sustainable and economical manner than previously used solutions. Congratulations to the entire team!
