Deans at the meeting of the Team for Improving the Functioning of the Metallurgy Industry
On August 1, 2025, a meeting of the Task Force for Improving the Functioning of the Metallurgy Industry was held at the Ministry of Industry in Katowice. Representatives of technical universities participated in the meeting: Prof. Krzysztof Nowacki, Dean of the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology; Prof. Agnieszka Kopia, Dean of the Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków; and Prof. Sebastian Mróz, Dean of the Faculty of Production Engineering and Materials Technology at the Częstochowa University of Technology.
The meeting focused on education in the context of the current and future needs of the metallurgy sector and related metal processing industries. Discussions included the need to educate highly qualified engineering staff and the need to support the launch of commissioned programs at technical universities, such as industrial materials engineering technologies, metal product technologies, and green technologies in metallurgy.
The meeting also addressed the declining interest in technical education in these fields and the potential for systemic support for higher education from the public administration. The results of the discussions are to be submitted to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as input for the update of the "National Science Policy."
"The Polish economy needs engineers with modern materials and technological expertise. As an academic community, we want to actively co-create solutions that will ensure the development of the steel and metal industry based on knowledge and innovation," emphasized Professor Krzysztof Nowacki.
The Team for Improving the Functioning of the Metallurgy Industry has been operating since January 2025, with the goal of developing and implementing solutions that support the sustainable development of the Polish metallurgy industry. The participation of representatives of technical universities in its work confirms the key role of science in the transformation of the materials industry in Poland.
