Migration of student mail to Office 365

On 29 December 2020, the process of transferring students' mailboxes operating under the domain student.polsl.pl (so far serviced by a server named: poczta.student.polsl.pl) to the Office 365 service of the Silesian University of Technology will begin.

The email address name and password will not change.

The settings for accessing an Office 365 mailbox will also be published.

Migration status as of 1 February 2021: The server poczta.student.polsl.pl has been shut down. The process of migration of student mailboxes to the Office 365 service has been completed.

When a new mailbox is created, in the portal https://portal.office.com, applications. From the moment when the Outlook application appears in the list, to the moment when Office 365 is able to start the application without any errors, it can take several minutes - this is the time necessary to fully generate the mailbox on the Office 365 side.

If you have problems logging in to your student mailbox or Office 365, you should first use the password recovery procedure described in the section "How do I recover a forgotten student mail password" below.

How can I create an account with the domain student.polsl.pl?

Students of the Silesian University of Technology receive e-mail accounts in the student.polsl.pl domain. This happens after the candidate is accepted for studies. A newly enrolled student does not need to take any action to obtain an account. The candidate's login and password are sent to the private e-mail of the student, provided during the recruitment. The private e-mail of a student in the USOS system may be changed at the student's request at the Student Service Office (BOS). There is no need to take any other action. All accounts have addresses according to the scheme @ student.polsl.pl. The password for the USOSWEB account and the e-mail account is the same. In case of problems with login or password, please contact BOS.


I have a problem sending or receiving mail using the mail program.

First of all, check whether the settings of your e-mail programme comply with the configuration instructions on the website https://www.polsl.pl/pomoc/en/.
The next step is to check if the connections with the server are not blocked by software such as firewall or antivirus installed on the computer you use. It happens that such software blocks mail transfer.
Also install the latest version of your email program and update your operating system. For Windows systems, use the "Windows Update" service. As part of the "Windows Update" service, install the optional "Microsoft Update" functionality. This will update other Microsoft software (e.g. Microsoft Office) and not only the Windows operating system itself.


How do I change my student mail password?

The password can be changed at any time on the password change page.

The criteria for correcting the new password are as follows:

  • password must be at least 12 characters long;
  • the password must contain at least 3 of the following 4 character groups: capital letters of the English alphabet, lowercase letters of the English alphabet, numbers, special characters;
  • the password must be different than the previously used password for the POLSL.PL domain account;
  • password cannot contain first name, surname and username;
  • the password should not contain Polish characters, due to possible problems resulting from the different encoding of Polish characters in various applications and systems.


How do I recover a forgotten student mail password?

The login and password for the student e-mail is the same as the login and password for the USOSweb. In case of problems with the login or password, please contact the appropriate Student Service Office (BOS) to reset the password. The login and password will be reset and sent to the private email of the student, which was provided by the candidate during the enrollment or was later changed by the candidate.


How do I recover a forgotten password for USOSWeb or APD systems?

The login and password for the USOSweb and APD applications are identical to the password for the student e-mail. In case of problems with the login or password, please contact the appropriate Student Service Office (BOS) to reset the password. The login and password will be reset and sent to the private email of the student, which was provided by the candidate during the enrollment or was later changed by the candidate.


What are the limits on box capacity?

Depending on the type of Office 365 license assigned, the capacity is 50 GB or 100 GB.

The maximum size of one e-mail message is 100 MB (including all attachments).

The available capacity and the current occupancy can be checked at any time by logging into the mailbox via the website (Outlook on the web https://outlook.office.com/owa/polsl.pl), by clicking "Settings" in the upper right corner (wheel icon gear), then "View all Outlook settings". In the window that appears, click "General" - "Disk Space".

Information on the capacity and the current capacity of the mailbox is also available in the Microsoft Outlook application connected as Microsoft 365 / Office 365 / Exchange.
